These clowns will be scrambling after they lose half their customers. I have absolutely no use for speakout without the UMB and really unhappy I bought a $100 voucher. Expect to see speakout vanish in the next year.
Lose half their customers? Really? SpeakOut was around long before UMB. There are MANY of us who use SpeakOut just as a phone, with no bells or whistles needed (or wanted). It's your fault you bought a $100 voucher and are "really unhappy" about it. Your last comment is just wrong. SpeakOut will be around for years to come. If you are unhappy with them, then move on.

More info from good2go mobile's (which is also run by Ztar) web page:
Note: Effective October 1, 2013, the Unlimited Browsing feature and plans will be retired. If you are currently on a plan with Unlimited Browsing, your plan will continue to renew until November. Once your plan expires in November, you will need to choose one of our exciting new plans with a full data feature.

I guess when they say "exciting new plans" that means they haven't published (or maybe decided on) the details?
BTW how fast is SpeakOut mobile browsing? I may be borrowing a relative's SpeakOut phone for a few weeks, and while they are happy not using UMB or text on their old candybar phone, I plan to put the SIM in my unlocked Telus Android handset. If I paid $10 for UMB, what kind of speed would I get? It's a Galaxy SIIx, so no LTE.
Also interesting, on the G2G website they also say:
In November, upon expiration, your current plan will be removed. Your account will be chargd 0.25¢ per minute for outgoing local calls and all incoming calls, 0.15¢ per minute for domestic long distance plus local airtime and 0.15¢ for all outgoing text messages to any number in Canada and the US.
which means if you're on (say) an auto-refilled $30/(300min+UL text) plus the UMB add-on, in November you go BTM and have to know to put yourself back on the plan!? That sounds like a PR disaster waiting to happen, why not just remove the add-on and leave people with their plan?
Presumably they'll handle SpeakOut the same way.

I Have to say I'll be sad to see the UMB go as it has been the best things since sliced bread for me. I live in the US but work in Canada and needed a simple solution to stay in touch with family.
I bought a Cubot M6589 phone (super fast quad core phone) on ebay for $150 (shipped from China). It's a dual sim phone with android...pretty awesome, I like it better than my buddies Galaxy S4.
Anyway....got the phone...did the root on it. Installed the US sim and Speakout Sim.....and then did a couple of things in mobileuncle tool to make sure it would lock on the 850mhz signal only for the speakout sim.
END RESULT - I get 3G and I DON'T even need to use Proxydroid....no idea why, but this phone doesn't even need the proxy..all of my apps work, email, skype...only exception is Fongo.
So my family in the states got the skype app and I can make calls to them and everything.
Unlimited data for $10 month is pretty sweet, even if it is a bit slow at times. It even worked in Osoyoos when I went on a trip last week. Sometimes it's a bit quirky with youtube etc, but it always eventually works. I listen to the Adam Carolla app all the time, works great. 3G baby!
Just an awesome deal...will be sad to see it go.

And so you can't figure out why it's going?? After that great experience you've had.
Are you directing this to me?
I never said I couldn't figure out why the UMB is going, I merely stated I was sad to see it go.
I know exactly why they are ending the UMB and it's the same reason speakout with UMB has been a great experience for me.

I am still patiently waiting what there new data plan is. OH and I still very happy customers as basically using UMB for browsing and checking our bank accounts on the go. Has anyone updated their Iphone to IOS 7? We didn't feel that we have to so just interested to know what other speak out users experiences are.

The info was Leaked by Good2Go website.
The do not want to put it on the website for this exact reason…
Now let me explain what is probably going to happen, as I did some Batman snooping…
Sears Connect used to offer unlimited browsing, they have replaced it with this.
100 MB2 of Data for Smartphones
$10.00
200 MB2 Data Share for Smartphones
$15.00
500 MB3 of Data for Smartphones or BlackBerry®
$25.00
500 MB of Data3 Share for Smartphones or BlackBerry®
$25.00

Now, Good2Go has put a notice in the web page saying this;
Note: Effective October 1, 2013, the Unlimited Browsing feature and plans will be retired. If you are currently on a plan with Unlimited Browsing, your plan will continue to renew until November. Once your plan expires in November, you will need to choose one of our exciting new plans with a full data feature.
NOW!
What the obove means is that they have figured out a way to end this debacle, by removing the option to add it from the system and remove it from the web site…
So this means that they will be informing everyone probably come monday.
So what I am going to do is activate a new
SIM card on Sunday and add the option, this way I have a fresh SIM that I can use for 2 months…
NOW, how do you get 2 months?
Well, if you activate on the 30th September, the plan will renew on the 30th of october, then you will get another 30 days and will get cutoff on october 30th.
See what happens is that in the month of October your plan will renew only once more, and when that expires.. bye bye…
So if you have it set to renew next week october you should ask them to remove the plan and then add it again, because if your plan renews october 1st, then THAT will be your last renew, so you only will get 30 days…
Honestly I was rooting for $20 for 1GB like Bell…, anything less than that and i'll just toss the SIM card.

Look at the list of MVNO in Canada and you can check out the web sites...
Now if you visit Cityfone you will see that they have forgotten to remove the reference to the Unlimited Mobile Browsing, but have replaced it with the New DATA options, Sears Connect IS Cityfone AKA Rogers MVNO...
http://www.cityfone.net/plan-a.....a-options/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L....._operators
Is it possible that Speakout 711 can get a better deal on Data? possible but I highly doubt it. Sears / Scotia bank CityConnect would also want that same rate...

What is the difference between "Data" and "Data Share"?
At cityfone, the over-usage cost for the 100MB ($10) or 200MB ($15) plans is $0.05/MB. That means $5/100MB. Why would anyone buy the 200MB plan when they can buy the 100MB plan and if they go over by 100MB it is the same cost as having purchased the 200MB plan in the first place? Maybe the 200MB plan comes with "Share". (?)
The 500MB ($25) plan has an over-usage charge of $0.01/MB. That means that 1GB costs $30 and 2GB costs $40, etc.

Took some sleuthing but the mystery "Share" (looks like it should be a link) is defined here: http://www.cityfone.net/rate-p.....ily-plans/. The reference to 1GB in the footnote is that the $80 Shared Plan comes with 1GB shared data (the other Shared Plans have it as an add-on).
Add-on: Share Data on any Couples or Family Plan starting at only $15/month!^3
[^3: Includes data usage within Canada; 100 MB / 200 MB: $0.05/additional MB used. 500 MB / 1 GB: $0.01/additional MB used. Data charges while roaming: $0.01/KB in the U.S.]
I note that US roaming is ~$10000/GB!? Or am I dropping a decimal or two?

I could live with $25 a month for 500 Mb, especially with .01 a meg over that. Hopefully it can be turned off and on since I only need it from May to October. But would be happier if the good old UMB stayed, I don't use apps and don't need full data. But it was inevitable the "testers" would kill this thing.

Cityfone is owned by Rogers. Speakout and Petro-Canada Mobile are run by Ztar Communications on the Rogers network.
Ztar might be able to offer better prices, but only if their contract with Rogers allows it. I suspect that Rogers will require a minimum $10/100MB charge, and only more expensive data packages will be discounted.
People will then write all sorts of angry things about Speakout.

Interesting... As you can see CityFone has the $10 100MB add on and only $0.05/MB overage or $0.01 with the $25 add on...
BUT Rogers PayAsYouGo charges $0.15 and $0.05.... big price gap 3x and 5x... the $0.05 / MB is doable with Opera Mini browsing and Email.. but I suggest you all Root your phones and install Droid Firewall to keep the scammy Apps from eating data.

Good2Go's web site now has their new data plans spelled out. All their plans include unlimited texts. Without data, their monthly plans are the same as SpeakOut, $20 for 100 minutes, $25 for 200, and $30 for 300. With data, you can either get 100 minutes and 100MB for $30 or 300 minutes and 500MB for $45. I'd expect SpeakOut to be pretty similar.
For comparison, with Koodo Prepaid you pay $15 a month for texting, and by buying Boosters that don't expire, for a total of $30 you'd get 100 minutes and 333MB. $45 would get you 300 minutes and 500MB like Good2Go, but you don't lose the minutes or data if you don't use it.
Good2Go doesn't yet show the cost of using more than 100MB or 500MB. They also have to fix the spelling of "chargd" and change the number of minutes for $25 from 300 to 200.

That's terrible. You can easily get a better plan from any of the other companies by bringing in your own phone. For instance, for anyone in Quebec, Virgin has a plan that has unlimited canada wide minutes, unlimited international text, voice mail, call display, 1GB of LTE data for $45 - BYOD = $40.50.
