They have updated the Speakout website. $10 per 100MB. That's the standard rate anywhere else.
EDIT: Also noticed if you go with the monthly value plan, you can have other choices of $15 for 500MB and $25 for 1 GB added on.
**Opps - just realized I've posted to wrong forum. Moderators, please move this thread. Thanks.

I have other options. I will pay $20 for a gig from Telus instead. With Speakout, I will probably get another $25 card to make it an emergency phone to throw in the glove compartment. By this time next year, I will not be a Speakout customer.
I would like to thank Speakout for dragging this out as much as they could though. I got most of my $100 used up on UMB.

Disappointing indeed. They should have set an amount, then you have 365 days to use that amount, not 30 days. Not going to get data now. What a let down. Oh well.
For $10/100mb is really expensive for me when I really only NEED maybe 1-2mb a month.
Wind Mobile is the move with unlimited incoming voice/text, 1c/min outgoing callback service, unlimited text messaging $5/month.

Does anyone know how to deactivate the UMB? It won't let me get the data plan online because it says I have a conflicting add on.
I called into Customer Service so they would cancel the existing plan I had.
The question I have is does anyone know what settings are needed to access the Data? I can't get my phone to connect to the data network.

I am not a tech guy and just been using UMB for 3 yrs now so don't know what 100mb relates to in terms of usage. I am basically using my speak out for browsing rarely used video. How long does 100mb last on normal usage just browsing? Apologies for such a stupid question. Thanks.
Not a stupid question - actually - an important one. Browsing can easily consume average 1 - 2 mb per page - depending on what you are browsing. If you are revisting pages often, most of the content will be cached on your device so less usage. But if you are say going to a brand new site you have never been before, you will consume more.

100 MB can be quite usable for some people. I had switched from Speakout to Rogers pay as you go half a year ago to use real cellular data instead of UMB (my wife is still on Speakout). I have been using the $10/mth for 100MB addon on my iphone 4s.
It works for me because
(1) I am usually in a wifi zone (home & work). Thus data is only used when communting or at locations that have no wifi.
(2) Celluar data is used mainly for imessage, email, voip and push notifications. I have the occasional web browsing and Maps usage. I do not watch youtube videos, stream music/videos while on cellular data..
(3) On my iphone 4s, I turned off apps and settings that will consume large amounts of data.
(4) Use Gmail app (if you have a gmail account) for push notifications. Use the Gmail app instead of built-in mail app using exchange. Built-in mail app on exchange consumes 10 times the celluar data compared to gmail app.
So far in the last 6 months, I've average between 30 - 80 MB of cellular data per month.

now that SO data is disappointing
does anyone have any alternative provider recommend?
Koodo offers a base $15 plan with unlimited TXT messaging and 1GB of data for $30.
Here's the bonus: Whatever data you do not use, gets CARRIED OVER TO THE NEXT MONTH!
I'm switching, thanks Speakout for the fun times!

Hi Liteshow thanks. My wife and I have users of speak out for more than 3 years and on average we spend only $15/month including calls and texts. We rarely watched videos on you tube. I guess we still would like to give it a try comes November their $10 per 100mb. I did a little research and now have the app data manager from my itunes. (I've got an Iphone 4 and wife got a 4s).

Actually, this works really well for me. I can have 100 MB of data for $10, plus pay-per-use text and voice is *far* cheaper than other carriers for low use customers - I only need 20 or 30 texts and a few minutes of voice every month.
I wonder if Speakout will still offer 20% airtime bonuses from time to time? That would make things an even better deal.

This ALMOST works for me too. I too only use a small amount of texts a month, and an even smaller amount of minutes. I generally have been running around the 500 MB a month range. My usage is around $15 to $20 a month. Now, the only way to get 500MB is $20 Value Plan with $15 data add. For less than $35, I can take my phone to Wind and get unlimited voice, text, and data.
Looking for another alternative that fits my usage. Anyone know anything that matches that profile?
