I'm kinda new to all this. I'm interested in getting the 7-11 plan since I just picked up my first cell phone (unlocked GSM phone) was going to goto 7-11 and get the promotion and use the sim in my unlocked phone but the lady at the 7-11 kept insisting they didn't use sim cards in their nokia phones

Soo, is she completely clueless or are there different versions of their phones? (BTW this was on vancouver island, B.C)

Thanks

Ask her to open the back cover of a Nokia phone, lift the battery and look.

Dunno about "completely" but on this subject, yes. Nokia does make non-GSM phones that don't use SIMs (e.g. as sold by CDMA operators) but the Nokia phones that 7-11 sells for use with SO are all GSM.

(Maybe she needs to lay off the BC Bud.)

7-Eleven sells phones for the Speak Out Wireless service but also for other services, like Virgin Mobile (which doesn't use SIM cards) . Perhaps you were looking at a phone for a different service... or perhaps yes, the lady was clueless 😀

You always keep the same SIM card.

The SIM card doesn't store your airtime credit. That balance is stored on the cellphone provider's system, in this case Ztar. So to confirm what manny said, when you buy more airtime and activate it (also on Ztar's system) your SIM card doesn't change.

Can I buy a sim card for my Motorlla V-500 that will work on the 'speakout' network? I'm trying not to have to get rid of the phone that will come from 7-11 if I buy the phone.

Yes, but not from SpeakOut. However, people on this forum offer SO SIMs for sale privately.

Yes, the store will give you a receipt with an authorization number at the bottom.
You call *711, enter this number & the system will confirm your new account balance.
