I let my Rogers paygo time expire and didn't want to put anymore on it because they're a bunch of theives and the 7/11 deal was only a short time away. So no one will be able to call it to identify that it is mine when I try to port in my new number. Also, I'm a cheap bastard and I don't want to spend $10 + tax for time that I won't be able to use anyway once the number is ported to my new phone. Anyone know if they absolutly need to make that call, or am I screwed?

I'm in the same boat except the phone whose number I want to be ported over is DEAD but my account is still active 🙁 Telus screwed me big time! Anyone know what's going to happen in this case? I can't think of a way I can prove I'm who I say I am.

I just ported a Fido prepaid number to speakout. The CSR at speakout told me they need a 3 of the following information to do the porting.

1) IMEI # (from the old phone)
2) SIM # (the old SIM card)
3) Account # (if different from from actual phone nubmer)
4) Password for account
5) Password for Voice Mail

I gave Speakout CSR the IMEI, SIM # and the Password for account and was told it will take 3 days.

There is no charge for porting from Fido.

Hello, thank you for setting up this forum, so we have a place to look for advice 🙂

I bought and activated the 1600 today. I am using Rogers' emergency plan right now (which is not on contract and can be cancel anytime). I would like to port my existing Rogers # over, but after reading the posts I'm still not quite sure what are the proper steps. Please bear with me?

I should call CSR of Speakout to port the number, but should I call Rogers to cancel the service first? Or the service will be cancelled automatically after Speakout ported the number? I understand I will be charged $5 for the porting by Speakout, but will Rogers charge me? I remember reading somewhere the cost of porting service is $75 by Rogers? Or I misread?

Thanks 🙂

Hi, ported from Bell cell phone as of today. It took 1 business day. They require your Bell account number, the cell number, and the ESN number of your bell phone (11 or 15 digit number on the back of your phone - well, my phone anyways). As was mentioned earlier, the call centre states that porting can only be done between 9 - 5 eastern, however, I was fortunate enough that they had staff on that night that could start the porting process for me at 8pm pacific friday night. Received the text message this morning that it was complete.

Hi, do I need to turn off the cellphone before the porting is completed?

The CSR told me it takes 2 hours to port but 12 hours passed and my cell number is not changed.

You'll need to power off the phone and power it on again in order for it to connect to SpeakOut's network. No matter what the CSR told you, wait at least one business day for the port to take place. After one day, if you still haven't been switched, call CSR again and ask for status.

ok, I called 611 and she told me it can takes up to 3 business days. 🙁 I read somewhere it's the law that it should take up to max 2 hours.

Nice, my number is ported from rogers to Speakout. It took 1 day.

Procedure:
I dialed 611 from Speakout phone.

CSR asked me the rogers # I want to port from and old phone IMEI. The IMEI can be found on the back of the old phone after remove the battery, rogers passcode and my postal code.

1 day after I receive a msg saying my number has been ported successfully. Now I remove the battery from speakout phone and plug it back in. Restarted. Everything is working fine now. So happy about 711 service! A+!

I just ported from Rogers too. The SpeakOut CSR said it might take 72 "business hours" ... it actually took 25 real hours!

The voicemail password was re-set - had to call back - the CSR advised that the default re-set password is the last 4 digits of your ported number.

Rogers CS has previously advised that, as a "bundle" customer, the 30-day cancellation period would be waived when I ported. Waiting for next month's bill....

Latest Rogers bill (by coincidence dated the same day as the number was ported) has no charge for the upcoming month. Yay....

I just had my Telus land line ph# ported over to my new 7-11 wireless. I couldn't believe it but SpeakOut did it, painlessly.
Disconnected my home phone from the jack and now use my wireless as a home phone. Thanks to this site for the info and the great customer servie from speak out wireless. the porting process took about 4 days. I'm very happy.

Does anyone know if you can port a VOIP phone number such as Vonage to Speakout?

I currently have two Fido PAYG numbers. One for myself, and one for my mom when she's in town.

I just picked up a Speakout phone/SIM via the promo and I would like to do the following:

1. Port my Fido phone number to my new Speakout SIM

2. Port my Speakout number to my other Fido SIM (the one for my mom, since the new Speakout number is easier to remember)

Can it all be done via Speakout CS? Or will I need to Call Fido as well. And which order would I have to do this in? I'm assuming I need to port out the Speakout number first so not to lose the number? But then does that render my Speakout SIM useless and not able to accept the port-in from my Fido number?

Also, Do they NEED the IMEI#s? I never got a phone from Fido, Just bought the SIMs and put it in my own phones. So I don't see why they'd need that info.

And finally, Do there need to be money in the phone for porting? I currently have $$ in the Fido number I use myself. But since my mother is not in town, her phone currently do not have a balance. I also have no idea what my mom's voicemal pw is.

And does Speakout have an email address for their customer service? I always rather email when things are a bit more complicated so it's down in writing and they can fully understand my request before acting on something that will affect something else. (i.e. - if they ported a number first and lost my current number, etc. )

Thanks all for your help.

1. Port my Fido phone number to my new Speakout SIM

You have to do that through a SO CSR.

2. Port my Speakout number to my other Fido SIM (the one for my mom, since the new Speakout number is easier to remember)

You have to do that through a Fido CSR.

And which order would I have to do this in? I'm assuming I need to port out the Speakout number first so not to lose the number? But then does that render my Speakout SIM useless and not able to accept the port-in from my Fido number?

That's the rub. I'd suggest you call SO CS and ask them.

I suspect that SO doesn't immediately recycle phone numbers. There's probably some way for them to hold your SO number for a day or two so you won't lose it. Or they may be able to suggest a cleaner way to do this (e.g. they only "harvest" expired numbers once a week or once a month so you have a window to switch, etc.)

Do they NEED the IMEI#s? I never got a phone from Fido, Just bought the SIMs and put it in my own phones. So I don't see why they'd need that info.

Normally they want that plus account number, etc. for post-paid plans. In this case the former is irrelevant and you don't have the latter. They might want you to give them your Fido VoiceMail password to prove that the SIM is really yours. Again, call them and ask.

Do there need to be money in the phone for porting? I currently have $$ in the Fido number I use myself. But since my mother is not in town, her phone currently do not have a balance. I also have no idea what my mom's voicemal pw is.

Without at least the password how can they verify that you have legal ownership or control over the SIM and account? I think you're either going to need to get this or get your mom to make the call.

And does Speakout have an email address for their customer service? I'm not aware of an official e-mail address. You might want to ask the agent when you call SO CS 😉

Thanks Bylo. Most of what you said makes perfect sense to me. I will ask the SO CSR about the port-in/port-out. But if it's too complicated, I'll just port-in my own Fido PAYG. Would be nice for my mom to have an easier number, but it's not really essential.

That's the thing though, what's legal ownership of a PAYG? It's pre-paid. Does the service provider really care who's making the calls? They probably wouldn't bother to investigate anything since they already got the money. Or the SIM doesn't have a balance left and it won't matter. Also, the first time I signed up for a Fido PAYG, the clerk just typed in the store address, phone number, etc for the customer info. He said he did that all the time, especially for tourists/cruiseship riders and such who just wanted a phone while they're here (downtown store, lots of tourists).

And with Speakout, it was even easier, no personal info AT ALL. Pay for the phone (vouchers in this case due to the promo), and I've got the number.

I guess that's kind of why I asked if I needed money in the SIM. Maybe they can call the number to verify that I am picking up at that number and requesting the number porting; Since as you said, my IMEI# is irrelevant, and I don't have an account # because I'm PAYG. Voicemail PW is useless as ID in my opinion since if you dial into the automated menu from the Fido PAYG SIM, you can just hit a button and reset the voicemail PW.

I tried to port the number of a lost speakout phone to a new speakout phone last night and was told it couldn't be done from a lost phone. Does anyone know if this is accurate?

Thanks!

Regarding this porting, is it possible to switch 2 numbers between services?

So if you have a 778 landline and 604 cell, can you call the companies and make them to switch the numbers between them?
