QUOTE:

I intend to port my current Rogers cell number to the 7-11 phone, although the customer service person at 7-11 seemed unsure of the correct process and suggested I gather the network password for the cell phone from Rogers.

Does anyone know the correct process or steps to follow?

Hi Lou Vaccarello, I have ported my phone number from Fido last month. First you call CS between 9 am to 5 pm ET, Monday to Friday and tell CS that you want to port your number from Rogers. CS will not do the transfer but a porting staff will call you and ask for your name, Rogers phone number and account number. Then he or she will call your Rogers phone to make sure that you are the owner. He or she will tell you to turn off both phones. Porting takes about 2 hours. Once OK CS will call you at your home phone or your contact phone to inform you that everything is OK. A text message will also be sent to your Speakout phone saying that your new phone number is so and so. You have to reactivate your phone by dailing 611. Your balance will be $5 as Speakout treats the phone as a new account. If you originally have more than $5 in your balance,.you have to tell CS your balance when you request for porting so CS can make a note on it and keep the balance in your account after porting.

This is awesome -- thanks! I feel like I should start a section specifically for porting...

Well, I guess this site will evolve over time...

Hi guys, I bought the 1112 yesterday and it had $10 on it. I want to change my phone number to a number that is not in service or owned by any other carrier. Is this possible? Mike

I doubt you can just pick any number, but 7-Eleven can probably assign you a new number. After all, people have been able to get different area codes...

Call customer service (FAQ #2 on the main page) to find out.

If I port a Rogers number from a phone which has 4 months left on the contract what happens to the account I'm porting the number FROM? Do the phone numbers just get switched or does Roger cancel the FROM account and charge their penalty?

This is in response to Mikes question about picking any number. For phone number changes in Canada Speakout is at the mercy of Rogers (they told me in the US they have more control over this kind of thing and can do it immediately). If you have been a Rogers customer you will know how bad their service is. Now imagine how bad their service is for people using Speakout. They send the request to Rogers and then have to wait until ROgers gets around to changing the number. I had to wait a month or so for a number change and there was no requesting numbers - you take what you get from Rogers. Also, i think different phone companies have different sets of phone numbers they can assign. If you are able to request and receive a number please let us know.

By the way - the Speakout customer service was very apologetic about the long delay (they said it usually takes 1 week). They even gave me a $25 airtime credit for the wait (and I did not even ask for it).

Thanks also to Peter for putting this website together. 7-11 does a better job marketing their Big Gulps than this great phone plan and this site is very very helpful. Wish it was here when I bought the phone....

Thanks Peter, I just came across your Forum searching for the information I couldn't get from 7Eleven. I went out and bought the $100 promotion 1112 phone and now I am going to port my Rogers phone.
This site has given me all that I need
Now I know where to post my questions

I'm considering giving up my landline - do you think I can port my Bell landline phone number to 7-11? I know I could port it to Bell Mobility so I'm wondering if it would work at 7-11 too.

Thanks - great website!!! I'm planning on picking up 3 phones for the whole family this month!

What happens to the numbers when u port? Do they just switch? Does the company u port FROM close your account? If I ported a number FROM a Telus/Rogers account with time remaining on a contract would the account be closed and I get hit with a big cancellation charge?

When you port your Telus/Rogers phone number to Speakout, your Telus/Rogers account will be closed and you are responsible for any cancellation charge.

Well I ported my Fido prepaid to SpeakOut wireless.
I bought the $100 speakout refill and got the free Nokia 1112 phone with sim card. The phone number has good easy to remember digits. (too bad I cant swap the two numbers and sell my fido simcard)
I have an unlocked Motorola v360 phone that I put the speakout simcard into. I called 611 and found out I have $5 already in my prepaid account. I called my fido number and a congratulatory message from speakout was given "welcome to speakout blah blah" . checked my balance again via 611 and its $4.80 and then transfer to operator and I told them I want to port my fido number to speakout. Next day I got a call from speakout and they said the porting will be done in an hour and then boom, my number is ported ! I called 611 and check my balance, its at 4.80 and it expired may 2008 !!!

Hi, ported from Bell cell phone as of today. It took 1 business day. They require your Bell account number, the cell number, and the ESN number of your bell phone (11 or 15 digit number on the back of your phone - well, my phone anyways). As was mentioned earlier, the call centre states that porting can only be done between 9 - 5 eastern, however, I was fortunate enough that they had staff on that night that could start the porting process for me at 8pm pacific friday night. Received the text message this morning that it was complete.

fantastic site/thread!

I'm looking to do the following:

1. Port a rogers number to my 7-eleven account; then...

2. Port my 7-eleven number to a second different rogers account.

Is this possible? ie. will I lose my 7-eleven phone number after the first port?

I've also heard that it's not possible to port between 7-eleven and rogers, but I've read otherwise here. I'm still a bit confused!

any help is appreciated! thanks! :^)

you can port the 7-eleven number to your other rogers simcard. You need to call rogers and 7-eleven to coordinate it. I know because when I was porting my fido number to 7-eleven, I asked if I can swap-port the two (fido to speakout and speakout to fido)
but the operator said they cant do it but they would be able to if I have another fido account. (fidoA to speakout and speakout to fidoB)

Hi all. I was looking to get a 711 account, then port the number to a Rogers account.

I then want to use the 711 account with a new number. Anyone know what happens with the 711 account after its been ported out?

Can I get another number assigned to the 711 account or will I need a new sim? Will they give me a new sim or will I have to buy another phone?

Can't get a straight answer from CS.

In order:

Hi all. I was looking to get a 711 account

With a brand-new number.

then port the number to a Rogers account.

Immediately reassign the brand-new number.

I then want to use the 711 account with a new number.

Get yet another brand-new number.

Can I get another number assigned to the 711 account or will I need a new sim? Will they give me a new sim or will I have to buy another phone?

They're probably trying to figure out (like me) why you don't just have Rogers change their existing number instead of "porting" everything all over the place, and use the 711 number with the 711 phone. Or have you found some magical 711 number that you simply must have, and the clerk is holding that particular phone until you decide?

It's all very confusing.

Actually its quite simple. Rogers only has 647 area codes available (or at least thats what they tell me). I cant get a remotely decent number with rogers. I already have 2 711 accounts and they have fairly easy numbers and come with a 416 area code to boot.

Just want to know what happens to the 711 sim after a number has been ported out.

-Can I get another number for that sim?
-Can i buy another sim?
- or the worst case, do i have to buy another phone and sim?

The latest SpeakOUT brochure states ...

" ... Replacement SIM cards are available at a cost of $25.00 and telephone number changes have a fee of $10.00 each... "

Hi T Tony,
From when I ported my simCard, the source simcard with the phone number you transferred from will become useless. This is what CSR from speakout and fido told me. But since yours is speakout to Rogers maybe you can salvage the old simCard but I doubt it.
