Hi Andrewww,

Greetings mate. You're a great guy and thanks for the tips for all fellow speakouters. I have been trying so hard without success on my new iPhone 4 with ios5. The phone is registered to Rogers and I am getting the phone to work flawlessly and I have the $10 Internet add on. The 3G is displayed on the top left but when I try to access any data features it says page cannot be displayed as there is no data connection. I have tried the hard reboot, reinstalling the configuration. But still no connection. Help!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Cheers
Rich.

Hey Rich, how many bars are you getting? I know that with mine, its hard to get data if I'm at one or two bars. If you've got decent reception, try disabling 3G in Settings/General/Network to see if you can access 2G data.

I would suspect your apn settings are wrong.
The easiest way to add the speakout apn settings to an iphone is
1. Go to unlockit.co.nz (on your iphone thru wifi)
2. Select custom apn and Canada- Speakout
3. Create/install the profile.

First delete/remove your existing profile, found under settings-general.

What are the APN setting for Canada Speakout? Once I refill mine I am going to try data. Online activation is advantage.

Hi Andreww,

Just wondering if pathfinder's way to change the APN settings works as well? Cuz I've heard you process works flawlessly. Also, I'm getting full signal strength and I've tried it on 3G and Edge but still no internet connection when i try to load anything.

thank you all!!
Rich.

Hi guys,

I tried the hard re-boot as well and when I try to open a web pg I get "Could not activate cellular data network - You are not subsribed to a cellular data service". This is weird as I see full signal strength and 3G on the top left corner.
Anyone could assist?

thx!
Rich.

I'd never trust a hacking site to have access to install anything on my phone. Using the iPhone Configuration Utility is straightforward and risk free.

Double check that you followed the proper steps with the config utility. If so, call speakout customer service and have them check that your data is set up properly. Did you activate it from the website or over the phone?

Never hurts to post them here…

Obtain the iPhone Configuration Utility from Apple, via their website. It's a free download. A windows and Mac OS/X version exists.
Start the application.
Click on "Configuration Profiles" in the left column.
Click the "New" button in the top left corner.
Under the "General" section fill in the "Name" and "Identifier" fields with whatever you like, I used:
Name: "Speakout Wireless"
Identifier: "com.speakout.wireless"
In the "Advanced" section, enter the following:
APN: "goam.com"
User Name: "wapuser1"
Password: "wap"
Proxy Server: "10.128.1.69"
Port: "80"
Then attach your iPhone to the computer, it will show up in the left column under Devices. When you see it, click on it to select it.
In the right screen, click the "Configuration Profiles" tab. You should see the "Speakout Wireless" configuration you just created.
Click the "Install" button next to it.

Thanks Andreww. I added the data feature online and I think it's working okay as I see the 3G on display. I think it might be the APN. I will try that again tonight. Would you recommend using Pathfinders route and going through the website: unlockit.co.nz and registering it through the phone itself?

Andreww would not as he stated 'I'd never trust a hacking site to have access to install anything on my phone'. I've used it and it worked fine.
You can google for reviews about the unlockit website to see if people have reported downloading viruses from it.
If you want to take the time to follow the instructions for installing the APN using the iphone config utility then that would be the safest way…
It's whatever you're comfortable with…

Hey Andreww,

Good morning. I tried re-installing the APN and double and triple checked all the settings and it is exact as you put. I even did the full reboot 3 times and still saying no internet connection yet I see the 3G and Edge on the top left. Will it make a difference that my iphone is running ios5?
what else can i do?

thanks,
Rich

Hi folks,

Another small problem....finally got data up and running. But the issue now i'm facing is that i'm no getting full 3G speeds. It's extremely slow and when i try to download apps, it's lagging and taking forever.
Is there something i need to change to make the data run at full speeds?

thanks again,
Rich.

For me, all my apps run fine on data (3G), speed depends on where I am. However, I am never able to download apps on my iPhone 4.

hmmm, that's strange though cuz I know people who can function pretty much everything with the SO internet add-on. The speeds right now i find fluctuate quite a bit.

Yes, but even when your on Rogers 3G and run a speed test, the speeds are all over the place. I can do anything on my iPhone 4, except download apps. Maybe cause the apps I have tried a very large, and they just time out. Not sure.
