I need to validate my SO phone number but I only have an ipad (want SO for data plan)
From the validation page: "be sure your phone is turned on, and that you have made at least one outgoing call " I have no phone!

Is there a way to validate my number without having a cel phone?

btw I thought I posted this yesterday, but there's no record of any posts by me at all under my profile!

Thanks in advance.

You can not activate your SpeakOut service without a phone. Since SpeakOut is a 2G voice/text provider, it only would make sense to get a phone. You can get them cheap.

Since you are new here, I recommend you read the rules on this site, as well as the Terms page on the official site, as using SpeakOut service on an iPad is prohibited.

Thanks for your reply. Thats too bad.
Sorry. I will read the rules.
Ironic as I found this site when I did a search for how to use a sim card for data on an ipad, tons of hits.

No problem. The Terms page on the official site has good reading too, and of course since we are using their service, that's the rules we have to go by.

once again, you can set the rule of this forum but don't be the authority of speakout because you are not.

for the OP, they would ask you for your IMEI but that bears NO significance in activating the SIM(if that is what you get). call them and give them whatever IMEI and the SIM will still be activated.

I activate my SIM(bought with the 1616) without putting it into the 1616 nor give them my Samsung Gio's IMEI.

I would not provide any further info about the data part here as this is the wrong forum for that nor would i reply in PM.

But need to keep the fact straight.

Once again, I did not say I am the authority of SpeakOut. I suggested they read the Terms page on the official site, as they are the authority, and the rules are clearly laid out there, and the rules we all have to go by if we are using their service.

You need to relax.

If this is not trying to be authority of speakout, I don't know what it is. Trying personal attack is not going to make you look nicer.

I wasn't "attacking" anyone. Your very first sentence in your other post: "once again, you can set the rule of this forum but don't be the authority of speakout because you are not." Talking about a personal attack. Personal attacks on other users, or the admin/moderators has a zero tolerance.

As for those 2 sentences you highlighted, ask SpeakOut themselves then. Show me where it says you can use an iPad with their service, and it's endorsed by them. This is what I see in their Terms page:

""Examples of prohibited uses include, without limitation, the following: (i) continuous mobile to mobile or mobile to landline voice calls; (ii) automated text or picture messaging to another mobile device or e-mail address(s); (iii) uploading, downloading or streaming of audio or video programming or games;""

Is that last sentence especially what an iPad does? (and it clearly says it's prohibited), then I don't know what is. Go ask SpeakOut themselves. Do it. I don't care if you disagree with what I post. I really don't. If you would be happier elsewhere, no one is forcing you to be here.

Like I said, you need to relax. Have a great day

All this because somebody didn't know how to ask if they could borrow their friend's phone for a sec.

I know, sheesh

I would think that if one wants to sign up for a wireless cell phone provider, they would have a cell phone, or could get one. Common sense. 99% of people have a cell phone these days.

Yes, but 1% of us don't
That's why I asked the question.
Sheesh indeed!

Sorry. Just that you are the first person I've seen who wants to sign up with a cell phone provider and doesn't have/want a cell phone.

This is personal attack, trying to imply me have emotional problem and putting a smile there. It is called insulting others.

I challenge on what you said, not who you are.

Seems that your interpretation of iPad is quite interesting. While many people use iPad for video, NOT everyone does and it definitely is not restricted to that one single function.

And no one ask you to care or agree/disagree my interpretation of that sentence. If you want a civil discussion, you are welcome. If you don't want, it is fine too.

Just don't try to misrepresent.

It is perfectly fine to say 'using iPad with SO is what we(I?) consider violating SO TOS and we prohibit such discussion on this forum due to legal concern' but that is very different from saying it plain as 'this is prohibited'.

Don't see how you can specifically say the iPad violates Speakouts terms based on that paragraph. Many devices, including the iPhone, can upload and download streamed video. In fact any smartphone will. Are we to assume that those devices go against Speakouts terms of use as well?

if one take those lines literally, anything is in violation.

(i) continuous mobile to mobile or mobile to landline voice calls;

we can only use SO to call international space station or may be US SUBs in the sea

AGAIN, ASK SPEAKOUT THEMSELVES, and I'll be waiting for their response from you. Ask them what specifically violates their TOS. Email them and see what they say, especially Roger Barratt, who is the product manager at 7-Eleven. I already asked about this, and if they have changed their minds (and go against their TOS), then it's news to me.

This thread has run it's course.
