Assuming someone calls me from Skype to my Canadian Speakout cell phone, will I be charged for that? Thanks in advance.

Yes, incoming calls are deducted $0.25/minute.

Thanks for the quick response. Do you know if charges can vary depending on which country the call comes from, if it comes from Skype etc? Or is it always $0.25/minute? Thanks.

All incoming calls are deducted $0.25/minute. Only outgoing calls are charged different rates.

Thanks. Is it correct that there is no way to get a fill-up other than going to a participating 7-eleven store? I am currently in Banff, AB and am out of credit. When going here I was convinced there was a way to top up via the phone, but this doesn't seem to be the case?

Do you know if 7 eleven phones operate with other SIM cards (say Telus, Rogers etc), if one was forced to go for that option?

Thanks for all your help in this forum.

Currently, the only way to top-up is to go to a physical 7-Eleven store. Airtime vouchers do come up for sale on this site as well, so that's a place you can look.

The 7-Eleven phones will only work if they are unlocked. Some older phones were sold unlocked, but SpeakOut has been locking their phones of late. However, a Rogers sim will work in a locked SpeakOut phone. A Telus sim (or Fido) sim will not work in a locked SpeakOut phone though.

Thanks for the reply. Where would I be able to find vouchers for sale on this site?

Do you know if Rogers are selling sim cards separately or do you have to buy a phone from them in order to get the sim card? Thanks in advance.

You can buy a new Rogers SIM on eBay for under $10.

Thanks. Would that be a Canadian Rogers SIM card?

Thanks for the suggestion. Do you know if either of these SIM cards would work with my Speakout phone (Nokia 1661)?

Also, how does it work when you get assigned your new Rogers phone number?

Rogers sim cards will work in a SpeakOut branded phone.

As for assigning the new Rogers number, you will have to ask Rogers that. This is the SpeakOut forum, and not Rogers. 😉

Since this thread has mostly talked about Rogers, am now moving it to the "Other Carriers" forum 🙂

Thanks. I was mainly concerned about the 3G tag on the SIM card, but that should work with a SO phone then?

I'm not familiar with Rogers sim cards at all. I would give Rogers customer service a call and ask.

Do you know if a 4000 series Rogers Sim Card would work with a Speakout phone (Nokia 1661)?

Yes, they will work. The 4000 series of SIM cards were released to improve compatibility with the HSPA data network. The new SIM card is fully compatible with all Speakout phones.

I have now bought a 4000 series Rogers sim card. However, when I try to start my SO phone with the new SIM card I get the following message: "Sim card registration failed"... Anyone know how to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance.
