Speakout has the above deal on again, free SIM and a $25 bonus with a $100 topup, believe that includes free shipping as well. So I'm going to get this deal as we need another phone in a different area code.

Question:

I want a 905 phone number as we're moving to that area code in 2 months. Do I specify what area code/city I want when I activate it? I can't remember how that works, been so long so I bought a SIM. HELP!!

Just tell them what city you're moving to.

You probably won't get a 905 number. They are pretty much used up. You'll probably get a 289 number. It's the overlay for the 905 area code.

Right, thanks for the info. I saw that there was also 289 there now, makes no difference I guess as long as the 905 and 289 codes are still considered the same for the free LD thing.

If you buy the $100 which includes $25 top up and free sim, can you still qualify to get the $20 off purchase of the phone promo for buying a time card of $50 or more?

It should not be a problem. Two separate promos.

It will depend on the store. Some won't allow you to combine promos in the same purchase, while others will.

the 25 bonus is done at top up time, nothing to do with the store. The store is not responsible in giving you that and would not.

The 20 off is done at the store when you purchase the voucher. It has nothing else to combine. So if the 20 off is still on, you are eligible for getting whatever phone AT THE SAME TIME with 20 off.

Though I would say it is a waste of money to get those phones unless they are free, but that is of course personally opinion.

Perhaps if you need a simple unlocked phone it's not a waste.

Since we don't have 7-11 stores in Ottawa, if I buy the SIM card online, will I get a local number based on the address I provide?

Yes. They will give you a number tied to your local area code.

my experience is that they would give you whatever number(area they cover) you want during activation. i asked specifically(the 1877 call) about it that i am in vancouver but may move to calgary. they said up to me but i can only get the same area code once, but ok to get vancouver and if moved call them to change to calgary.

Well, I bit the bullet and decided to buy the $100 + $25 + free SIM card. I just ordered everything, but I just realized none of this is going to arrive before April 30. The promo small print says that the $25 bonus only applies for activations before April 30. I can't imagine they'd hold me to that if the vouchers and SIM card arrive in the mail in early May, would they? Surely it's really the purchase date that counts?

sorry, I don't quite follow. What do you mean "the next round"?

I'm not currently a SpeakOut customer. I'm currently with PetroCanada and am ready to switch, which is why I bought the vouchers/SIM. So there's no "gap" to fill...unless I'm misunderstanding?

You're not suggesting that I could indefinitely delay activating the vouchers/SIM, are you? That would actually be ideal, since my PetroCanada credits run out in mid-July, and it would be nice to be able to wait until then to activate the SpeakOut stuff.

oh, wait, I think I see what you were saying. You're saying it ISN'T the purchase date, that I missed the chance to get the $25 bonus because I'll receive everything after the April 30 deadline (unless Canada Post delivers by some miracle tomorrow)?

I would truly be shocked if that is the case!

Just a heads up that unactivated vouchers still have an expiry of one year so you can't hold onto them forever. But it shouldn't matter in your situation though because you're only holding off until July.

If I buy a 100$ topup today, do I have to apply it today to receive the 25$ bonus? My airtime expires November, so I don't really need the topup but I want the 25$ bonus

You will not get the bonus after Apr 30th – read the small print – https://www.speakout7eleven.ca/prepaid-phones-promotions/25-top-up-bonus

I suppose if they had the same special in Nov you might get the $25 bonus when you apply this $100 top up that you bought now….but you may as well buy the topup then instead of now…

@canadavenyc - you should call Speakout to determine what to do if/when your purchase arrives after Apr 30th.

after apr 30, there is no 25 bonus, period.

you can hold off the voucher and wait till dec which is when they usually run the program again.

as for CS, it is usually out of their hand to add money to an account but you may want to try. I personally would not bother with the hassle.
