Last year I bought a Petro-Can phone (and SIM). At that time the expiry period was 6 months that seemed
reasonable (not many 7-11 stores in my area); unfortunately, by the time of my second renewal the expite period had been dropped to 4 months. 😥 Now, with the help of this promotion, I am considering buying a 7-11 phone, but I would
not want to get the same treatment a couple of months from now (well, actually in 365 days). How confident
are you on this long expiry period for even the $25 voucher?

Bought a 2760 with the $100 airtime yesterday. Just noticed that unlike in the past, the phone came with an assigned phone number and you just need to make the first call to activate the phone. This time, it did not show any assigned phone number and you need to call a 1-8xx number from a landline to activate the phone. Any body know how long it has been like this? And do they give you the number when you activate or give you some choices of the phone number?

Damn the Internet

Iamdrumming, a forum member over at SpeakOutWireless.ca apparently has a inside source in 7-Eleven and tells us that their "Buy a $100 voucher, get a phone for free" will be starting on the 16th of November 2009.

I bought a $100 voucher with a free 1661 last night. I activated it an hour ago. It finds and gives you a new phone# at the end of activation.

Looking at the Nokia 2720, speakout website says 3.0 MP camera. I did a google search and it seems most sources/reviews say it has a 1.3 MP camera. Anyone know for sure? Or are there two different models? Or a mistake by speakout?

As soon as the Promo was up on site yesterday morning, I noticed the typo.
So I sent e-mail to SP and they just replied. It will be corrected shortly.

We went to a Petro Canada Station in Mississauga this afternoon for the promotional offer and was surprised to learn that the store was not aware of this offer. Is this promotion applicable for select Petro Can stations?

No, it is only for SpeakOut Wireless, and only available at 7-Eleven stores. It has nothing to do with Petro Canada.

Would anybody know how the $25.00 bonus airtime is applied? Since I already have a speakout phone, can I put the $100 to that, activate the new phone /SIM, and have the $25.00 go to that. Or the $100.00 becomes a $125.00 credit when added to the account.
Thanks

Yes. BTW it's a 25% bonus. On a $100 voucher it's $25 but on a $75 voucher it's only $18.75.

Frank:

When you got the new phone number at the end of activation, did you get to choose the phone number, area code or just got whatever they gave you?

just got whatever they gave you

You get what they give you. That's is no different from the past where the pre-assigned number was printed on a sticker in the box.

I am planning ot getting the $100 promotion these days. Just a confirmation ot the phone number, can I transfer an existing Fido number and use it with the SO system. This is the only reason I am still keeping my Fido account open, and I really hope to see this Fido account closed and still have the number working.
Any suggestions on which model of the available phones at 7/11 is a good one.
Thank you all.

I thiink what you are saying is that if you use the current below$75 voucher minute you get a bonus by buying $75 and $100. If you use the current $75 and $100 voucher rate(more minutes) then you do not get any extra bonus more than you would last month. Also this lower per minute rate may end Jan.1
Just playing with words but 7-11 knows how to make people believe there is an extra bonus just started on 16 Nov for $75 and $100 vouchers. They would have received the lower per minute rate last week as well.

No, there is no bonus on $25 and $50 vouchers. There never was.

If you use the current $75 and $100 voucher rate(more minutes) then you do not get any extra bonus more than you would last month.

Correct. The 25% bonus had been in effect on $75 and $100 vouchers ever since SO raised their base per minute rate from 20¢ to 25¢. The 25% bonus was their way of reducing the effective rate on those vouchers to 20¢/min.

Also this lower per minute rate may end Jan.1

Correct.

Not really. It's an artifact of their per minute price increase from (IIRC) a year or so ago. There may be nothing new for old timers, but if you're a new customer the 25% bonus means that you can talk 25% longer with a $100 voucher than you could with 2x $50 or 4x $25.

Perhaps one reason why the bonus will end at year end is because so many people, both current customers and new ones, find it so confusing.

Thankyou moderator
Saying it the way you do makes sense. As usual this site is a gold mine of SO info.

Yes, you can port your number to SpeakOut. Just give SpeakOut customer service a call, and they'll take care of it all.

As for suggestions as phones, it is always a personal choice, and what you want in a phone. I have the Nokia 5130. It is a great phone, with MP3 player, and camera, but the battery life is not the greatest. I also have the Nokia 1208, which is a great basic phone, and has excellent battery life.
It all comes down to personal preference.

Hi,
For these phones, is the number in the SIM card? i.e. if I take the card from my older phone and put it into a newer
GSM phone, it'll work and the new phone will use my "old" number?
