Suppose I buy $25 with 365 days expiry. I use it a bit, but with the $1.25 deduction, I don't notice that the balance went to zero at say day 200. Is my account then cancelled even although I am still withing the 365 days?

I see there is automatic top up for monthly plans but not for the Prepaid 365 day plans. How do others handle that? It is very easy to miss that the $1.25 charge depleted your balance when you are not using the phone much.

From the home page of this site:

"13a. What happens if my airtime expires or my balance reaches $0?

If your balance reaches 0 but your expiry has not been reached, you cannot use the phone until airtime is added. If the expiry date is reached, you have an additional 7 days before the remaining balance is removed. They are required to give you 7 days by Canadian law (see http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/info.....ht/t14.htm).

You have 45 days to add airtime after the expiry date is reached; otherwise the SIM card will become void (and your phone number will be re-assigned) and you need to buy another Speak Out SIM card."

It's also mentioned in the FAQ on the official site.

Thanks - That answers my question in the first paragraph. How about the second one?

You just have to know your balance and expiry. Just read the home page of this site to find that information.

That is the problem and we have been burned by it in the past. We lost our balance and the number too. Reason being that we spend part of year out of Canada and expiry occured while we were away and not using or even thinking about Speakout.

Too bad they don't have an automatic top up or at least and alert when balance gets low or expiry is near.

We may think about Speakout again, but for now are going with Knowroaming for both phones (Had it on my phone for 3 years). Works on both sides of border for calling and data. Good for low usage.

If you have a website account set up with 7-Eleven all you have to do is to log on and it will tell you what your remaining balance is.

When I add money/time I use my calendar and make a note as well as a reminder 7 days before the expiry date. But with a $ 25.00 top up that's cutting it really fine.

Or, dial *777
