When I bought my phone the "free" voice mail charged you to listen to it so for me it was not free. I just read that this is no longer the case. I actually deactivated my voicemail because I did not want to burn up minutes with people leaving long messages. I now read from Peter that it is free to check the phone from a land line. I also see that Peter you deactivated your voice mail. Did you reactivate your voice mail and how do you check it from a land line? Also, do you know if it is possible to download new wallpaper photos? I have the Nokia 3120. I paid $88 CDN for it and it came with $35 free airtime. It is a small non flip phone with color screen. Great battery life and good functionality. Actually if anything it is a little on the small side.

Also, it is important when you get your phone to check the value on the phone since I think mine was down to a couple of bucks and it was supposed to have $10 on it. CS was great and topped me up no problem.

Yeah, I should really update that. I reactivated voice mail after discovering that it's free to check from a landline (see FAQ #15a). Just turn off your cell phone, call your cell phone, then press # when you hear your message (it will of course prompt you for your password).

Good tip on the top up, although you only get $5 pre-loaded now 🙁

I don't think they have a service for new wallpaper photos, but you can search around for info on your particular phone and hook it up to your computer if possible...

Thanks Peter. Actually when I bought the phone it only came with $10 (which was actually $3 when I checked so they topped it up for me). The deal at the time when I bought it was an additional $25 airtime credit for free. So that is how that worked. There was no free phone offer like there is now. Have you tried the Nokia flip they are offering and do you know if they will bring out more phones?

Also, I do not hold out much hope for new wallpapers although I seem to remember one of the CS reps telling me that I should be able to do that at some point.

I have the Nokia 6061 and it's a neat little phone. Good battery time and more features available than 7-11 provides. I like that I can put it on silent and it has a light that flashes on the outside when it rings. Automatic volume control seems to work OK only if the phone isn't touching my ear.....but the loudspeaker is adequate for everyone in a moving van to hear.

I just got my speakout phone (buy $100 refill and get phone for free promo). After I ported my number from Fido, I activated my voice mail and left a message from a land line, then I called my number again and retrieved my voice mail from a land line. Then I used my speakout wireless to call 611 to check my account balance and no money was deducted 🙂 so I am happy that I can check my voice mail from work for free. speakout rules

This does not appear to work for me with a US Speakout service. When I call my own number from a landline (with cell off), I get my standard voice mail msg, but pressing # does not appear to have any effect. It behaves as though I am leaving a new msg. Anbody with US service have any suggestions?

I've just created a US forum, so please post all questions for the US service there. The site is for the Canadian service, but hopefully that forum that help the US site visitors 😀
