Voice Mail Delay

I am a new user and have a question about voice mail. I use my phone only as needed and so that I can be reached in an emergency. I check for messages a couple times a day using the menu choices on the phone - I check the "Call Log" for missed and received calls and also the "Message" option, which seems to tell me when a voice message has been left for me.

I checked yesterday both at 6pm and at 10pm (or so) and had neither (no messages, no voice mails). Well, this morning when I checked at 8am, I was surprised to find that I had two voice messages waiting for me that we left yesterday afternoon. I haven't figured out yet how to check the time left, but I know they were both during business hours because of the nature of the messages - both places closed by 5pm.

Is this type of delay typical? I have not had alot of activity yet with my phone, and was shocked that the system did not alert me to these calls when I checked yesterday - well after the time when the messages were left.

Or am I doing something wrong? Do you have to call into voice mail to see if there are any messages? I was relying on the menu options alone.

Thanks for your help. I have learned so much on this site. This is a great place to learn about these phones and this service. Cathy M.

Yes, I have seen delays like that, with both voicemail, and text messages. I think the best way would be to call in to your voicemail to see if there are any messages, and not to rely on any icons or menu options that may pop up, advising you of new voicemails.

Since my phone is for emergency, I never pickup unexpected calls. There were a few times I heard the ringer, checked caller ID, decided not to pick up, and then saw the voice mail and message icons almost right after the call. I'm not aware of the kind of delay mirecka described.

However, after deleting the message on the cell and hearing and deleting the voice mail using a land line, my message and voice mail icons do not go away. I don't know how long it takes for those icons to go, but if I check after a few hours, the icons are cleared.
