Hi Everyone

Great site..keep up the good work. I want a phone for text and talking nothing more. But I want to buy a phone that I can use in Europe (ie Greece, Ireland). I have my eye on a blackberry pearl which will work in Europe with a sim purchase. So does anyone know if I can take the sim from the 7-11 cell phone and put it in my BB to use in Canada.

Is the promo still on for the free phone

Cheers
Al

I haven't tried it in a BB but I have put 7-11 SIMs in Samsung and Motorola multi-band phones. The phones work just fine on the 7-11 SpeakOut network. I don't see any reason why a BB, which is a quad-band GSM phone, wouldn't work in Canada with a 7-11 SIM and in Europe using either country-specific SIMs or global SIMs.

The buy $100 airtime and get a free 1600 promo ended on 01Oct. They seem to run similar promos every few months. I believe there was a recent thread that predicted a similar deal in Nov/Dec for Christmas.

Hi Bylo

Many thanks for your help. Guess I'll look out for the next special with 7-11 in the meantime, I'll order my unlocked BB

Cheers

Hi,
I have put my 7-11 SIM into my unlocked blackberry and it works just fine. I have also been to the UK recently with my blackberry, bought a virgin mobile SIM for £5 at the Virgin megastore, put it in the BB, got a £5 credit plus - thus sim was free! Worked great. Came back and swapped back to my 7-11 SIM. I have no idea why you just can't buy a cheap SIM in Canada for any network - think of all those unused phones out there! Everyone does it in Europe and I am sure they make more money then trying to get you to buy a new phone every time!

Yeah, I find the 7-Eleven service to be particularly suited for such a thing. Maybe we can start some sort of underground SIM rental service.
