SIM Card - I'm confused

Ok, I read the FAQs on the website but I am still confused. I bought one of these phones a couple of years ago, but then stopped using it when I got a blackberry from work. Now I'd like to use it again, but the SIM card has expired. Fine. However, why can't I just walk into 7eleven and buy a new SIM card for it? Why do I need to buy one off of someone on the internet?

This doesn't make any sense to me. Phone companies in some other countries sell SIM cards for literally 50 cents or $1. They realize that they make the money off of the airtime. Does 7eleven expect me to buy a brand new phone??

Totally confused...

Any insight/advice would be appreciated. Thx.

If you already have an old SIM, I believe you can just call customer service from your SO phone & ask them to activate it. There's most likely a small fee.

Dial 611 on your SpeakOut phone. (FREE Call) or dial Cust Svc from another phone:

thanks again for the advice. i spoke with customer service. for other noobs like me who are wondering what to do, you have to go into a 7eleven store, buy a $25 voucher, then call them back with the info of the voucher, and they will mail you a new SIM card. usually takes about 2 weeks. More expensive and a bit of a hassle than other places, but at least you don't have to buy a new phone.

Thanks for giving us the info.

You could probably qualify for a $10 referral code promo as well. Once you've activated your SIM & apply the $25, go to the referral request page on this forum & ask someone for a code.

Cheers.

They were pretty reasonable since they could have said you needed to buy a new phone. I guess you get to keep your phone number too?
