Hi there! I'm a newbie in this forum and hope to get an answer from all you experts.

I am on a Fido Prepaid Plan and wish to switch to 7/11 prepaid. I am already using an unlock phone. I understand that I can keep my existing phone and port the Fido # by using a new SO SIM. However I really do not want to buy the crappy 7/11 phones and would rather purchase a sim from someone in this forum.

I thought that you will need an account with 7/11 SpeakOut before you can port an existing phone #, can I do that with a purchased SIM, if the SIM is used? Can 7/11 transfer account from one person to another?

THnaks!

You don't need an account with SO. You just need a SIM. The SIM is what determines the current phone number and the amount of airtime balance it has.

Once you've bought a SIM call SO CS, give them the phone number currently assigned to that SIM and request that they port your Fido number to it. They will want to know your Fido account number and/or the IMEI (serial number) of the phone you bought from Fido in order to confirm that the Fido phone number really belongs to you.

It usually takes a day or two to complete the port. You do not need to contact Fido yourself. And of course you will lose whatever airtime you have with Fido.
