If I buy a SpeakOut phone and airtime is it possible to change the phone#? Does SO do it or does Rogers, who runs the SO network? Anyone have any experience about getting the # of their own choosing?

“How do I change my number?”
“It’s so easy, it makes texting appear challenging. To change your SpeakOut Wireless number, simply call Customer Care at 1-866-310-1023 from a landline. A $10 charge may apply.”
You can not choose your own number.

As said, you are not going to get the number you want from Speakout. However, you can port an existing number to Speakout. So get a number from another provider, like the Big 3, it's flankers, or other VOIP providers, and if you like the number, ask Speakout to port over that number.
