New user with apparently old 1208, already activated?

I just bought a 1208 late last night based on lots of great information on this website and forum. I had to call around to find a store that had 1208s and I found one store with two, though when I got there, the clerk checked the box for the first one and it was missing parts, so luckily there was a second one. Anyway, based on what I have read here, I have old stock as it appears to be activated out of the box. The blue "Welcome to SpeakOut Wireless" card enclosed has a sticker on it reading:

... Your airtime balance is now upgraded to 365 days expiration. Enjoy!

Your mobile phone number is: ##########

Voicemail passcode: #####

PIN is found on the printed side of the--

And there it cuts off! I assume that this refers to the PIN on my $100 voucher which I also bought but have not yet activated. Do I have to do anything else to activate the phone itself or can I just start dialing? The only reason I haven't tried to yet is I'm not sure if that would invalidate the referral code deal, ie. do I have to phone in the referral code before I make my first call?

Thanks everyone for all of the helpful info on this site. I've put off getting a phone for a long time because it's such an expensive pain in the butt for the amount I would use it for, but this seems like just the thing.

Congratulations. Yes your phone has been preactivated. Your airtime expiry clock starts when you make the first call on this phone.

To get the referral bonus you need to first top up the airtime with at least $25 using the code printed on your airtime receipt. Call 888 and follow the instructions. Then call SO CS and give them the referral code.

Note you can call SO CS on your new phone without incurring any airtime charges. Just dial 611.
