You can use HTTPS. However, I believe HTTPS has to be through port 80, and not the default port 443. Most secure sites should still work through HTTPS port 80.
I recommend you use HTTPS with Speakout anytime you have the option. Because not only your Web contents secure, Roger's proxy cannot interfere with the traffic. It cannot re-compress pictures when through HTTPS, for example. And to answer your question, you can bank as securely though Speakout as anyother internet provider, as long as you are using HTTPS.
I would not waste my time with Exchange and Speakout, just get a GMail account, and let GMail deal with Exchange instead. With GMail, a great feature is that you can send and receive exchange email without anyone ever knowing you are using a GMail account.
