iPhone possible?

Just curious, but if one were able to get hold of an unlocked iPhone, is it just a matter of taking the sim card out of a 7-11 phone and putting it in the iPhone to be able to use it for simple calls and text messaging. Anything more possible?

My curiosity was piqued by this news article:

Thanks,

I sold a SIM to a guy intending on using the iPhone with it. I don't know whether it worked, but there's no reason why it wouldn't if the iPhone is unlocked.

Looks like a standard SIM to me (in some sort of carrier.)

Of course it will work. It kind of defeats the purpose of having an iPhone though. No point in getting such a high end device if all you are going to do is make calls and txt message.

Just an opinion.

I think it would make sense for someone like my daughter who wants an iPod touch and a cell phone but will not be able to afford the iPhone data rates when it comes to Canada. It would save her having to carry two devices and the 8GB iPhone is about the same in price as the 16GB iPod.

Video of unlocked Apple iPhone on the Fido network. Woof! Woof!

Shows how SIM fits into a plastic carrier, then is inserted into iPhone body.
