I think my Nokia 1600 is locked

I had to exchange my FREE phone recently, and had already added the $100 air time. The clerk said she could exchange the phone, but not the air time.

I suggested that she simply swap the sim card, and she said that could not be done.

All this is pretty vague to me, so maybe I misunderstood. Can anyone clarify, please? I thought that the 1600 was unlocked?

Airtime is not refundable and is tied to a particular SIM card/phone number.

If you exchange the SIM card along with the phone at the store, you'd get a different phone number and lose all your paid airtime.

As usual, the sales clerk is unable to grasp such intricacies. 😉

Even if the phone is locked to the Rogers/7-11 network (which it isn't), any 7-11 phone will work with any 7-11 SIM card. It's the SIM card that determines the phone number and associated airtime.

On second thought, the sales clerk's right after all. 😉

You should swap the phone and keep the SIM card.
