I transferred my SIM to an unlocked Nokia E71, but when I dial 611, I get Rogers Customer Service. Also when I dial *777, I hear a few beeps and then the call disconnects.

I asked SO customer service about this and they said it's because I'm not using one of their phones and that there is no way for me to check my balance from my phone. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how do you check your balance?

I have had my sim in non-Speak Out phones, and have been able to check my account balance just fine. Have you tried checking it in a native Speak Out phone?

I sold my speakout phone so I don't have one to test with.

I can check my balance with my non SO phone with *777 as well. Is it possible *777 is a custom shortcut or something built into your phone? eg. The 1 button on my phone is a shortcut programmed to go to voice mail but it goes to Rogers vm's number instead of my SO number.

Yeah that's what customer service said. *777 is programmed into the phone.

Create a Contact called Balance at *777. That works fine on my Moto KRZR.

You should be able to program the Speakout voicemail number into your phone, so when you press '1' it goes there. That's what I did with my phone. Call Speakout directly and get a local voicemail number for you. They won't be able to help you with your E71 specifically, but you can ask them how to program it in one of the regular Nokia Speakout phones and it MIGHT be similar.

Not sure why the *777 doesn't work for you. Maybe the E71 was originally a Rogers branded phone and even though it's unlocked it still wants to go to the Rogers system?
