Hi, all!

I have a couple of new Petro-Canada Mobility and Rogers SIM cards (never used/activated). Since I'm cheap, I was wondering if I could activate either a Petro/Rogers SIM on 7-11's network? Does anyone know?

Otherwise, does Petro offer any freebies for activating with them (say a $10 topup)? Don't want to waste these SIM cards... Boo.

Thanks.

Petro-Canada Mobility and 7-11 (SpeakOut) both use the Rogers network. SpeakOut doesn't have it's own network. They are just MVNO's who use that network.

As for Petro-Canada's offerings, you can find details here:

https://mobility.petro-canada.ca/default.aspx

Not sure if they run promos like SpeakOut does or not.

Sorry, I don't understand what you're saying? Can a PCM or Rogers SIM card (brand new, unused) be used on Speakout 7-11? Instead of cheap/poverty-me buying a new SIM from Speakout. Thanks.

EDIT: Damn, I should have asked this in the Speakout forum instead. Since I don't want to double post, can a mod/admin move this thread to Technical service details forum instead?

If you have activated a brand new PCM SIM card in your phone, then you will have an account with PCM, not SpeakOut. To use SpeakOut, you need a SpeakOut SIM card in your phone.

sorry, but I'm not sure if I understand your answer or if you understood my question.

just to be clear, so a brand-new/never-activated/unused rogers or Petro-Can SIM cannot be activated on the Speakout network? Thanks.

That is right. A sim card branded for a provider is only good for a provider. Does not work on other MVNO's on the network. Speakout = Speakout Rogers = Rogers when it comes to sim cards. They are coded for specific providers not for general networks.

Thanks. Damn, I remember in the past people saying they could use a Rogers (or was it a PC) SIM card to activate on Speakout since they were on the same system. Too bad, now I have these cards I no longer need. Boo.

I understood. Please re-read the last line where I stated "To use SpeakOut, you need a SpeakOut SIM card in your phone."

Danno,
I think if you checked the past talk would have been about phones.

No, it was definitely in regards to SIM cards. Someone some years ago mentioned they activated their **** SIM card on Speakout. I believe it was on the redflagdeals forum.

Whoever said that is just plain wrong. Every provider has their own SIM cards.
