How do we know if we have new voice mail? Even though I have 4 new voice mail, I only see a '1′ next to the small envelope?

Last time I received a voice mail, the phone showed a special text message in the inbox to alert me. Interestingly, the message centre number it showed was in the 705-796 prefix (Barrie) although I am in Toronto and my phone number is in area code 647.
