I have a Motorola V190 which locked onto the Primus
network. I recently moved to a city not serviced by
Primus, and . not needing a new phone I asked Primus
to unlock my phone but they refused to do so. Anyone
tell me how to unlock this phone ??

I assume your Motorola is a GSM phone right? So that means that Primus is just piggybacking off of the Rogers network. So, their phones are most likely either locked to Rogers or Fido.

What service do you want to use once your Primus phone is unlocked? If you want to use Speakout, PetroCan, or Rogers, then just find a friend who uses one of those guys and see if their SIM card works in your phone. If it does, then you're all set. If you want to use Fido, then find a friend with a Fido phone and try their SIM out. If you have no friends, then go to a Rogers and/or Fido store and tell then you want to use their service with your old phone and you're not sure if their SIMs will work in your locked phone and see if they can try it out with some guy's SIM (all their employees should have cellphones).

If that doesn't work for you and you still need to unlock your phone, you can try and find some independent cellphone stores in your area, one of them might unlock phones.

Or try and do a google search on 'unlock motorola v190' and see what comes up.

I saw some ebay sellers that offer phone unlocking services, you can look into that.

I've never tried any of these, nor do I recommend one over the other. So if you get screwed, don't blame me. Plus the cost will probably be $20 more or less, so you have to ask yourself if your old Motorola is worth it.
