There is no need for Autoproxy. As suggested, create a new apn with only one setting.
APN: internet.com

This worked fine for me except my phone insisted on a name (Speakout) and an APN type (Internet+mms).

Many thanks to all those whose helpful suggestions got Speakout's data plan working in my LG phone back in November. Sadly, that phone was stolen and has been replaced by a Samsung Galaxy Discover SGH-S730M running Android 4.0.1. Just as sadly, I'm having the same problems with the data plan and cannot find a solution.

I'm not a techie type and don't wish to get too deeply into the works, but if any Samsung (or other) user has suggestions - please tell me! It could be that earlier APN settings are obsolete and have now been replaced. I'd be happy to try proxy solutions, bur don't want to get into rooting.

Thanks, everyone!

A quick update to the above. Out of desperation, I tried simply:

' APN: internet.com " and nothing else, not believing anything so simple could possibly work. The only addition required was the name. I called it 'Rogers"

It works. Thank you, 46jimbo.

I was scratching my head also. in addition to adding internet.com as an apn, I also had to add wapuser1 and wap as a login and password. Did not have to do that before.
