Dialing Question

I recently activated a kingston ontario number and was given the correct area code for my area. Today when someone in kingston same area code attempted to call me that got an automated voice after dialing saying to dial 1 or o then the number. I am assuming that by doing this you are dialing long distance, would they just have to dial the area code and number, I am confused about this? If I dial from my cell phone to my house the dialing of the area code and number only works fine. Thanks for any help.

It depends on how long ago your number was activated. Sometimes when porting a number, it can take 2 hours, or closer to a week in some cases. If you bought the phone out of a store, it should have been pre-activated and been able to use it right away.
Sometimes the activation process isn't entirely successful. You said you called your home phone from your cell. Did you try a call from your house to your cell? If it still doesn't work, give Speak Out customer service a call to reticify it.
