I can send a photo by text, but when receiving I just get a link to a Rogers website where I may download the photo. Unless it avoids the cellular system and travels as an iMessage over Internet - then I receive the photo in the message.

I just tested sending a photo to my wife, iPhone on Telus. She got the text I sent to her phone number. BUT it went as an iMessage, not MMS. So maybe I cannot send a picture to someone with a non-iPhone. I only know I can send a photo to an iOS device.

When texting, if I start in Contacts and the contact has both a mobile or iPhone number and an email address, I can choose to use the number or the address. When sending to the email, ios will try to send as an iMessage, not using sms or mms but Apple's imessaging system via Internet. There is a setting I checked to make it try texting to the phone number if iMessage fails. Imessaging only works between fairly recent iOS devices (didn't work on my iPhone 3G) that have cell data or wifi service. I don't have data service on my 5 and am told this is why settings - iMessage says "activation unsuccessful" and other iPhones cannot send to mine via iMessage unless the email address of my Apple ID (or possibly any address set up in my Mail app) is explicitly chosen by the sender when creating a thread in the Message app. Folks with cellular data can "activate" iMessage on their phones so Apple can automatically route the message to the phone via Internet, avoiding any cellular charges. Apparently once activated, it stays activated even if you don't keep paying for data service.

If this isn't helpful, perhaps I could share some settings so you can send photos as I can.

I still haven't got it working. I also can't activate imessage with my phone number, but I can use imessage through my email address. I read somewhere that imessage uses discrete text messages to activate itself but that Speakout doesn't support discrete messages.

I'm going to try what was suggested in another thread to fix data and hope it works:

"I've spent countless hours trying to get this to work on iPhone 4. Thanks for this thread, I finally got data to work! Just a recap for other Speakout Customers with an iPhone:
-Install "Apple Configurator" on Mac OSX Mavericks (I'm sure windows is similar):
-Create a profile for APN with the settings:
APN: internet.com
User Name: 'left blank'
Password: wap
Proxy Server: 'left blank'
Port: 'left blank'
Plug in your phone and follow the on-screen instructions. I didn't even need to reboot my phone, it worked immediately!"

I learned one or two other things. When I use the Message App, it seems to try imessage (blue) first. If I'm away from wifi (I have no data service), I just touch the blue bubble as it is trying to send and I get the option to send as a text (meaning MMS). I choose that, and away it goes with no delay. After it fails, I can also touch the red exclamation mark and get the same choice.

People sending to me when I am not at home must set up a contact with only my phone number, not my email address, and start their thread from that contact. The clever iphone is easily confused if their is another contact with my name including the emails, so I suggest they call one of them Harvey MMS.
