Hi guys,

I 'purchased' the Nokia 1600 (free with the $100 prepaid) for my daughter. This is a good basic phone, but I am wondering what is the currently best available unlocked phone I could get and put the Speakout SIM card into? I live in Vancouver BC if anyone has some ideas.

Also, can I take the Nokia 1600 and use it in Europe with a purchased SIM card?

Thanks a lot!

You cannot use the 1600 in Europe because it runs on the 850 / 1900 bands. You'll need to find an unlocked tri-band GSM phone. A quad-band (which runs on the 900 and 1800 bands as well) is best.

As for your other question about the best unlocked phone, you should state your feature requirements and how much you are willing to pay. Then people (actually I don't keep up with phones much) would be able to give you better advice 😀

Sorry for the vagueness!

I am looking for a used unlocked phone (quad-band apparently) that I can put the Speakout SIM card into. This is for my teenage daughter, $25-$75 range, flip or slide phone, MP3 would be good, camera not too important.

Thanks a lot!

Have a look at PureMobile, e.g. refurb Moto V195 for $89 or new Moto W375 for $104, etc.

MOTO W375 can be bought at Future Shop, Rogers pay as you go, for $89.99.

Yabbut it's locked to Rogers. It will work fine with a SO (or Rogers) SIM but not with any other.
