I am buying a used iPhone. Likely 6. Some for sale are locked to Bell or Rogers. Some people selling say I can just phone provider and get it easily unlocked. The sellers refuse to call themselves. Is this true? Can I just make the call and get it unlocked even though I do not plan to use the provider? Is there a cost? Can I unlock it by paying a website I find online?

Insist that the seller unlock it. It's supposed to be free. The carrier will likely refuse to do it for you as you are not their customer. If the seller refuses, then something is fishy.

I have a Bell Iphone 5 I bought second hand from it's original owner who'd upgraded.
I unlocked using an ebay.ca seller in January... $10 and I didn't have to leave my armchair ...it took a few days until I got an email that simply said "your phone is unlocked".
Seller's name was "thenily" I think.
