I bought an AcerZ220 from the latest promo.
The UI occasionally crashes - "Unfortunately, Acer Home has stopped".
Doesn't let you do anything or launch any apps since the UI has crashed, and it keeps popping up with this message constantly.

Rebooting the phone, it doesn't go away.
Taking out battery and rebooting, it doesn't go away.
I have been able to get access to Settings by swiping notification screen down -
Force stop on Acer Home app, it doesn't go away, it doesn't restart.

The ONLY thing I have been able to do get the phone working again is to reset to factory default via settings (the hardware method that I googled doesn't seem to work).

This is extremely annoying to put it mildly - I've had to do this 3 times in last 5 weeks since I bought this phone.

Has anyone else had this issue and is there some way of fixing this without a factory reset?

thanks!

Man

ps I'm never able to get through to speakout customer service, higher than normal call volume, then hangs up while I'm waiting. Very annoying.

I also bought an Acer z220 during the promo in May. Have not had any problems, so far. Just letting you know. But I am new to Android, so don't try to do too much with it.

Mine is doing this too lately, but I have switched the home screen to "Quick Mode" which so far has fixed it.
To get to the Settings/Home place to do this when the phone is crashing, drag down the pages from the very top of the phone until you see the settings icon available.
I likely lost Acer Home by tweaking phone.sf-laugh_gif

still, I see a couple of other peculiarities...
-the auto screen brightness gets it wrong
- the phone is pretty slow to find Speakout/Rogers network when you've been out of coverage for awhile. A fix seems to be: Settings/More/Network Operators...you don't need to search, though that works. Usually just pressing the Choose Automatically brings it back quick.

Hi all. thanks for the replies back...
I've narrowed the issue down to
a) do not try to disable any of the "stock" garbage apps that comes with the phone, like the games etc. doing so gets me into "Unfortunately, Acer Home has stopped" and I need to set to factory default to recover. Very Annoying.
b) when using the "square" button to close appilcations, do not close any feature tied to the phone fucntion, like contacts, or even the camera for some reason. Otherwise I risk "Unfortunately, Acer Home has stopped" and I need to set to factory default to recover.
Very Annoying.

Latest bug I found - when wifi is enabled and you go somewhere where there is no wifi signals and try to go Settings-Wifi to see if there is any signals...Settings crashes and can never recover like Acer Home. rebooting doesn't help. rebooting taking out battery doesn't help.
Fortunately if you go to where there is a wifi signal, it starts working again. Very Annoying!

happycamper - thanks for that quick mode thing, so are you saying if Acer Home has crashed, you start up quick mode somehow through settings and Acer Home then recovers without needing to reset to factory default?

I guess you get what you pay for with this phone, as always. I'm technical enough to put up with these annoyances because I just use this as a cheap voice and texting device to replace free Alcatel :), but I can't see normal users putting up with all these bugs :)

I see a system update to this phone as I write this and am installing it, hopefully Acer has gotten its act together on this phone after the system update, here's to hoping...

You must have a faulty phone. Warranty? I have closed all contacts, apps etc. through the x after hitting square and never once has it caused any time of crash. Just saying. I had a problem with the camera not working well/stopping a few weeks ago but a simple restart fixed it. I would toss that phone and replace it. It is obviously not working as others do.

hi, MyMan,

so are you saying if Acer Home has crashed, you start up quick mode somehow through settings and Acer Home then recovers without needing to reset to factory default?

Not exactly. I just switched to QuickMode and stayed there. It is just as good or better as a "desktop manager".... AcerHome will continue to crash if you restart it.

...another weird thing on this phone- the Calculator can't do geometry. Try it. The cosin of 60 is .5, not -0.95241 ! (FYI; slide out the green tab from left for scientific) It's pretty strange to have a calculator not working. I'd have to say it's a first for me.

added. I haven't had any trouble either, closing the recent apps list except that the little x is teeny and often restarts the app instead.
Also, I haven't had any issues disabling what is possible to disable...the onboard "free" apps including the Google stuff Chrome, and Facebook etc. AND I have reset the phone since and Acer Home has been running along ok for a week or so...hopefully I can find the bug if it fails again.

It is set up for RAD versus DEG without a way to change it....

I purchased the Z220 and had no serious problems. A friend, however, has had serious problems with updating.

What are the chances that 7-11 will warranty his phone?
