100 MB per 10$ - still somes apps don' work

Hi,
Had to renew the "unlimited" browsing today, so now I have (as many others) 100 MB for 10$. To my big surprise, it seems some network ports are still restricted, i.e. Google Talk does not work as it did not work before. Does it mean that the only change between the former UMB and 100MB per 10$ is less data?

Decided to give a call to Speakout CS. Terrible quality (extremely low volume) of connection (and I am calling the phone company so it would be normal to expect that at least they will be able to provide themselves with high quality VOIP connection/equipment) .What is more when I first was connected I could hear (perfectly) the menu etc. As soon as I spoke with an agent I could barely hear him - and this is not the fist time.

Anyway, the agent simply could not understand the question . "Ports closed? what is it?", "Port restrictions? Sorry I don't understand". Finally, after a couple of minutes of the "talk between deaf and mute" the agent told "Oh, yes, former UMB did not allow users using some data hungry applications on our network. Now it is different ". When I said that GTalk still does not work he added - " Yes, 100MB per 10$ plan also does not allow users using some data hungry applications, but there are less of them now". My further attempts to clarify what these applications are and what else is different just failed, the guy said that is no list of restricted applications, closed ports. etc available for the users.
So, can anybody shed some light on it for me? Is it WAP but just really expensive one, like 100 MB per 10$? When most likely I will merely drop Speakout and use of the currently existing promotions from different mob. providers.

It sounds like you didn't change your APN settings yet.

Make sure you have the new data settings and not the old UMB one.

Thanks, you are right, new APN settings should be used for the 100MB plan.
I used the following (GTalk works now):

APN: rogers-core-appl1.apn
MMSC: http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS Proxy: mmsproxy.rogers.com
MMS Port: 80
APN Type: Default
APN Protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN Roaming Protocol: IPV4/IPv6

All you really need is to add internet.com as a APN setting, though of course rogers-core-appl1.apn also works.

You really do not need to add the MMS settings, because Speakout currently does not support picture messages.

I have used different brands and OSes, and it seems best to power down the phones, and reboot. Sometimes it takes a while for the APN settings to kick in the first time around, so you have to be patient.

According to the Messaging tab on this page MMS is supported at $0.50 per message.

I stand corrected. $0.50 is a quite pricey for MMS though. It might not be the worst thing to not ever have the settings active at that cost.

If you don't enter the settings you'll never get the free incoming.
