Hello. I would like to buy a SpeakOut wireless SIM card for my son to use. He is headed to Canada on July 19th. I live in Maryland so it would be ideal if we didn't have to deal with shipping from Canada but that could also work fine - we have enough time. Let me know if you can help me out. Thanks so much.

It might be easier for him to buy a SIM card once he gets here. Just drop by a 7-Eleven.

I would rather acquire it before he departs so I can set up the account. He won't have a computer while at the cottage. Thank you!

If he is going to be at a cottage, then there is a chance that he will be out of cell phone range. Verify with his hosts that you can get a Rogers signal there.

You know, the simplest option would be for him to just text using his American phone.

Thank you - I would like to give SpeakOut a try and have an unlocked blackberry for him to use. He doesn't have a phone normally and I would like to talk to him as his spelling is just terrible Rodgers works at our cottage which is near Bala.

Here is my solution. Have your hosts purchase the sim card for $10 plus a $25 voucher (the minimum) from a 7-Eleven store. It is possible to activate the sim card through Customer Service, so you don't have to have a computer. Just phone 1-866-310-1023 from another phone.

It might even be possible for your host to do this ahead of the boy's arrival. He could then just pop in the sim card.
