Update: It has been brought to my attention (thanks howi) that none of the regular Speak Out phones can be unlocked with codes such as those generated with the site below. However, this might still be useful for people using their own older phones.

Enter your IMEI number (usually found under the battery in the phone) and this site will generate an unlock code for you:

http://www.gsmliberty.net/shop.....unlock.php

Note that the site above does not offer any guarantees that the code will work (nor do I), so use it at your own risk. However, I have personally had success unlocking a Nokia phone with the code that site generated.

Thanks for the site, however I could not find nokia 2800i on that list.
Do you know if it can be unlocked?

I used it successfully too but had to use a combination of the old Microcell and Fido codes... as my phone is an old Nokia 3390.
Anyway, I don't think there is any risk, maximum it will not unlock the phone. I had to try several times before I succeeded but after every trial the phone was still working with the original SIM. However I read somewhere that after more than 4 trials of a code that CODE will not work anymore...

Most cell phones will hardlock to your carrier after about 5 tries at the code (depending on model).

Once this happens, the only way to unlock your phone would be via cable (testpoint) or sending it to the manufacturer, both of which are costly and time consuming.

I unlocked my Fido Nokia with the code provided on the website, though I had to insert a Rogers SIM card before getting it to unlock.

Unlocked my 5190 fido with SIM taken out. Going to use it with external antenna with SO service in poor reception areas. (forests)

Folks,

PLEASE NOTE:

* Those so-called "Nokia unlock code calculators" at many sites as well as downloadable versions, are dealing with the DCT-3 and DCT-4 generation Nokia handsets but NOT for the newer BB5 generation models such as N95 8GB, 6300, etc.

The code from this site worked for my Nokia 6020b (FIDO) phone - on the first try. However note the changes I made.

-put in your NEW SIM card and turn on the phone
-message will read "Phone Restricted. Stop"
-hit the joystick button under the "Undo"
-(phone will bring up a blank box) inside this box enter in the code
Hope this helps!

For unlock codes check ebay.ca -- most of them are $5 or less.
I just had my Motorola w510 unlcoked a few days ago -- very simple.

Edit: just search for
unlock code nokia 3500
(for example)
