Worth Waiting for new players?

Sorry if this topic has been beating to death. Wasn't sure what terms to search for under this topic.

I'm reading that there will be a couple new wireless companies coming out with service early next year. I'm moving out and plan on buying a speakout phone mid november ($75 off w $100 top up). The idea of having a cell phone is so pple can leave me voicemail (check from landline at work) or possibly text messaging (cheaper than a phone call). So might take me awhile longer than a year) to use up those minutes up. Debating seeig if I can get a $25 and $75 coupon instead so can sell the larger one. Since the phones are now locked, not like I can just buy a sim card from these new carriers (if that would even be possible) and use the 7-11 phone.
So on the one hand, don't want to be w/o a phone for a few months. But also don't want to spend all this money on a phone and minutes (although I guess $25 card isn't too big of a deal) just to switch to one of these new carriers not long after.
Or even how about this:
Buy a used phone from virgin mobile for $50, get the $0.30/min plan and $50 bill credit. Get (free?) caller id and voicemail. So for the most part, my minutes would be used up checking voicemail or text messaging. This is assuming it's worthwhile to go with the new carriers though.

As I said on another thread, "I wouldn't hold my breath waiting, for at least two reasons:
1. The new players want to target the mainstream and build market share quickly. If they're smart they'll be concentrating on medium and heavy users who can spend $25 to $50 per month but who are tired of all the lying, obfuscation and monetary surprises from the incumbents.
2. In order to use the new players' networks you'll need a new phone."

So in my opinion, given your planned usage, I doubt the new players are going to be interested in you and SO is still likely to be your best option.

Another thing to consider is that the new players will have to build their own network, unless they become another MVNO. If they decide to build their own, it will take years before the network coverage has any merit to it. They might just have coverage in the urban area, but venturing outside anywhere outside a city, you will lose signal.

Actually the CRTC mandated that they can get roaming access, at reasonable rates, from the incumbents for the next five years. Nevertheless, Globalive e.g. has no spectrum (and hence no coverage) in QC, so yes it's wise to see what and where the new players provide as they roll out their products.

I think it was more of I don't want to miss out on anything really good.
So more than likely the prices won't really change for the packages, just that you will get little extras or bonus' included. Your right, I would feel more comfortable with well established players and I can do a lot of reading for comments, critiques and so forth.
Who knows, this will be my main phone and some point in the future might actually sign up for a $20-$30/month plan instead of letting all calls go to voicemail 🙂

Anyone else having the problem of text boxes getting cut of? Only seen it on this site...
