Hey everyone,

I've always been aware that my phone will not work when I'm outside of Canada, however, I recently noticed that when you are sent any text messages while you are outside of Canada (i.e. while in the US), those messages will never get to you (even after you return to Canada), and they are lost forever.

I find it unfortunate that this one shortcoming would make me want to leave Speakout, but this is the reality. I can't not be getting messages and I find it too bad that messages would just disappear into the ether like it's the internet circa 1993.

I suppose I could leave my phone back home where it will receive all messages, but that seems kind of silly, since it's a mobile phone and not an answering machine. Or I could purchase a sim card in the US, but I don't really want to be managing two pay-as-you-go sim cards and two different phone numbers, just for doing a few weekend trips every year.

So basically what I'm ask is, are there any services similar to Speakout that offer roaming in the US?

Thanks!

Not really. The big 3 do it, but at a price.

IF you do a lot of traveling, I would question why you would need a carrier SMS at all if you use a service like google voice, which provides free SMS through a data plan. You could even use a computer for some of the messages.
