Hi,
Can someone tell me how topping works if the previous card is not depleted (and it has some time left.

..main reason I ask, is re the $100 cards plus phone deal.

is there an advantage to getting 2 x $50 cards?
i.e. start 1 card and it expires next november
start next card 80 days later (within the 90 days required) so therefore early Feb (and it will expire feb 09!.. but what about the leftover time on the first car that expires nov 08?)

.. ANdrew

That's a reasonable strategy. When you top up all of your unused airtime gets carried over and the expiration date for the entire balance gets reset. So yes, you could get 365+90 days.

I went into my closest 7-11 tonight and asked about the deal. I inquired if I could get 2 x $50 vouchers instead of a single $100. The assistant manager there told me that they get reimbursed the $75 credit for the free phone from only on sales of $100 vouchers, not any other denominations. I have heard of other stores selling 2 x $50 vouchers with the free phone though.

However, I also asked if balance gets carried over when you refill the phone, and he said yes. Which would only make sense for the 2 x$50 voucher idea to work. So yes, getting 2 x $50 would mean up to an extra 3 months (90 days) without having to refill your phone. But really, it doesn't make a huge difference.

Why, because with the 7-11 plan, even the $25 voucher has a 365 day expiration. So at the end of 12 months, I just top off with a $25 voucher, and I've got another year to work off the $25 plus whatever is left from the previous $100 voucher. If you went with 2 x $50, you'd still have to top up after 15 months. So within a two year time frame, there's really no difference.

And so with either 1 x $100 or 2 x $50, within two years time, you will have spent at least $125 on vouchers. That's still a huge savings compared to my current Fido PAYG where I have to put in at least $10 every 30 days to keep my account active. That's just over $120 a year, or $240 for the same 2-year period as compared to $125 for 7-11.
