Okay now the site shows data rates.

$10/100MB (good for 30 days) if you're not on a Value Plan. https://www.speakout7eleven.ca/prepaid-cell-phone-rates#data

If you want more than 100MB you must use a Value Plan, which means paying a minimum of $20 for airtime and texts, to then be permitted to add 500MB or 1GB data at the rates below.

If you are on a Value Plan (airtime+SMS, no more airtime only), switching to the same plan with 100MB is another $10, $500 is $15, 1GB is $25. https://www.speakout7eleven.ca/prepaid-cell-phone-rates#value-plans

In addition, it looks like they've taken away the old $30/400min (no texts) Value Plan. All VPs now include UL Canada/US text, from what I can see, so the most you can get is $30/300min (+UL texts even if you don't want them). That's a pain because the $30/400min was a good deal for just airtime.

Thoughts?

Data overages are charged at $0.10 per 1MB.

$100/GB for overage, and no way to block it? They'd better have a really good data-use reporting tool, or a way to block data when you're done for the month, or they're going to get some very bad publicity. Though I guess they're all used to that.

So the overage rate is the same rate as the $10/100MB plan? According to my phone I'm using 9MB per day, so that would be 270MB per month.

So $10/100MB
+
170 x $0.1 = $17

Total of $27 right?

And this data is unrestricted? Is anybody using it?

That's a good point that the overage is the same $10/100GB (makes the $10 look awfully expensive).

I'm more concerned about the requirement to pay for UL texts, I don't have all the old prices saved but I do remember $30/400min and I think it was $25/300min or $20/200min (no texts, no UMB, no data). And I also recall (again only from memory) that UL text was effectively $5/mo more on top of those plans, so the new $30/300min+UL-SMS is the same as before, they've just taken away the better (for me) plan. And of course labelled it "our plans are improved" [because you can add data for $10?].

Have they taken down the indicator of your current plan?

I can see the account balance, but not when the current Value Plan expires, nor its remaining minutes.

Thanks!

Just talked to customer service. Because I'm on a plan no longer offered ($30/400min), the site doesn't show me the minutes remaining. It _should_ show minutes remaining if you were on a plan that was kept, i.e. one with SMS included.

She said I can get the minutes remaining by doing *777*1# [SEND] on the handset, but there's no way to find remaining minutes from the website. My problem is I don't have the handset in my possession, I lent it to a relative and have been monitoring minutes remaining for them.

If I do get to the Oct 19 renewal date with the plan still active, it will auto-renew on the same $30/400min plan one time (same as the UMB plans). But if I run out of minutes before then, I'll be paying 25c/min until Oct 19. I didn't ask what would happen on Nov 19 since I'm probably going to run out of minutes before Oct 19 and will do what it says in the paragraph below.

If I run out of minutes before Oct 19, I can either pay 25c/min until Oct 19, or I can call them, and have them remove the existing plan. Then I can go on one of the new plans (presumably $30/300min), either through the agent or myself on the website.

Don't feel bad ...
They stopped my ULB 3 days before it was due to be removed and I think I also lost money that was left on my account.
I definately going to have a talk with them before I pony up for more abuse.....

Maybe just change the apn settings for the data. Perhaps you now have the data plan instead of the browsing. That's probably what they have done. Don't have both available with Rogers. SO should communicate better if so, but that's today's world!!!

Change the APN to what? Is there any setup instructions for accessing the new data plan?

SO just renewed my "surfing plan" but I'd like to see if the data plan will work with some of my apps and see how much I actually use, before I decide to switch.

So was the unlimited browsing simply cut off once the data plans became available? I got a fair use violation text yesterday (even though I had been using mostly wi-fi for weeks and hadn't used any browsing in days), and the browsing function stopped working about 12 hours after I received the text (I had 5 days left). Then today, my unlimited text plan updated for another 30 days, even though I didn't order it, nor was money deducted from my balance for it (it also had 5 days remaining). Was this just their way of saying sorry for eliminating the browsing early? Since the new options mean I'll have to purchase the $35 value plan to get the equivalent of my current features, getting it now would null and void this freebie, and mean they've simply stolen 5 days worth of unlimited browsing and texting from me.

I can't speak to your specific situation of course, but the answer to your initial question is "no".

The plan with UMB was supposed to continue to the end of your billing cycle, then a single renewal in October. Come your November renewal date, you'd be dumped onto PAYG I believe.

In my case, on the $30/400min + 0 SMS (also no longer offered) it's supposed to renew on Oct 19 and then convert to PAYG on Nov 19. The challenge for me is that someone else is using the handset and there is no way to check airtime balance on the website. If I were trying to use up the 400min then stop until Oct 19, it can only be monitored on the handset (*777*1#[SEND]) or by calling them.

Luckily for me, we would not be renewing at $30/400min even if it were available, and it's down to about 8min, so I've just said "it's 25c/min now" and their usage has dropped. I just have to remember to call and cancel the monthly plan before Oct 19.

Hope this helps.

Speakout support told me they were going to change the site so discontinued plans will be visible. i.e. if you're on $30/400min or something with UMB you should be able to monitor it. I already cancelled mine because I didn't want it to renew, so I won't be able to see if they do it.

Has anyone on the old $30/400min (or maybe UMB) tried this to see if you can now see your plan's remaining minutes? I'm back on 25c/min so I can't check.

Thanks!

I just checked this morning and there's no sign of my current / discontinued plan. I am on the $30/400min plan.

I'm on UMB and the system does not tell me anything beyond the number of days remaining (for me 30 as it just renewed today) with the note: "Your current Value Plan/Add-On with Browsing will expire at the end of 2 renewal periods, starting in October. You must sign up for a new Value Plan and/or Add-On prior to expiry. If you do not activate prior to expiry, your account will revert back to $0.10/sent text message and $0.25/talk minute. ".

What I want to know about the new plans is what is "FREE Canada Long Distance" - dose this mean all Canada calls are treated as local? Or just the "anytime" minutes?

Thank you both. Guess they decided not to do it.

As I recall when we were on the $30/400min plan, those 400min included LD. After that, when we reverted to 25c/min, they didn't include LD. Is that what you were asking? Sorry if not.

Ottawa2010, Thanks for this number...*777*1# [SEND] I didn't know that!

Anyways, judging by it, I am still on my original 20$/200 minute anytime plan, having automatically renewed from a balance at the end of October.
I am hoping I am being "Grandfathered" through the new changes as long as I auto-renew.
Otherwise, I may quit SpeakOut if I must use the new plans. It's a huge increase.
