Im finding it very confusing to figure out which phone works where. Is there some sort of guide or general rules for this?
For example, if i wanted a Samsung Galaxy S Epic 4G, i dont know whether Sprint is compatible, or what CDMA 800/1900 is.

Another example is the Samsung Fascinate Galaxy S, which is from Verizon, which has CDMA 850 / 1900

Help please?

You need to list all the bands of the phone then we can tell. SO is GSM + 850/1900 HSPDA

For phones that use the Rogers network, you need to have a phone that can do GSM at the 850mhz and 1900 frequencies. Rogers also supports 3G HSDPA phones that do the 850mhz and 1900 frequencies. That phone you are trying to buy on EBay is a CDMA phone, and that will not work on Rogers network. I will add, that Speakout uses the Rogers towers.

If you want to buy a phone from the states, make sure it is unlocked and works on AT&T's network. I would suggest you do not buy a phone from anywhere else in the world because their frequencies are usually different.

This is pertinent information, since some Telus/Bell phones are HSDPA phones that also do 850mhs and 1900 frequencies. I wonder if it can be added to the SIM Card guide page information as an update?

basically, all SIM card based 3G phone are compatible in NA(except AWS) and they can all fallback to GSM(I haven't seen one that is not quad GSM) so usable on Rogers/ATT/T-Mobile.

Sorry I'm a bit slow to this: the SIM card guide page is now updated to include info about how Telus and Bell phones starting in 2010 also support GSM. The entire page probably needs an edit soon.

Peter,

To simply say TELUS and Bell also supporting GSM may not entirely correct… their joint effort has been the 3G UMTS/HSPA+ implementation, rather than the 2G GSM/GPRS/EDGE one. Also, their handsets are still SIM locked (except the Nexus S).
