Looks like the free phone and $25 airtime bonus with $100 airtime purchase is back:

The free phone option is a BLU Advance 4.0L only.

This seems like a good deal, I think it'll run games like Tapped Out and Clash of Clans on Wi-Fi, since the phone itself can handle it. But Speak Outs data speeds are so slow on the Edge network, it won't load games.

Can anyone offer some feedback on whether the data speeds are faster on a Speakout Phone rather than BYOD?

It looks like they've since taken the promo off the website. I did however check a store here in Winnipeg and they still had the promo going on. And I got the last phone in stock.

I was able to get the free phone with the purchase of $100 airtime (and $25 bonus) in Toronto (Bloor and Spadina) last night and it looked like they had several more in stock.

Just called the Waterloo stores. They tell me they are sold out. One clerk said there was a limit of 10,000 phones. She also said that they now have a $50 off any phone with $100 topup purchase promotion. I don't see that on the web site though.

Lousy bait and switch tactics.

They must have been overwhelmed with orders. I was told they are on back order. I just received mine from the current stock.

So far I'm liking the phone. Snappy, stable, not too much bloatware. No problem installing the Speakout sim, mini SD card. No problems with the bluetooth, wi-fi, audio, camera video and stills, connection to a PC via USB link. It is slim and light weight.

It comes with a power adapter with USB socket, a USB to mini USB cable, a screen protector, a quick start guide. It does not come with a full manual, but there is a link on the opening screen to an online manual. http://s536785483.onlinehome.u.....-l-manuals

I installed Sophos virus checker first and it flagged an app, "Device Management v1.0" as having an SMS trojan "Gedma-A". A second checker also flagged it. Not sure if it came with this or I acquired it in the first few minutes of surfing. Some research revealed this flag may be due to questionable behaviour by this app, not necessarily malware. At any rate, I did a total phone reset before installing software, disabled Device Management (it could not be removed since it is an Android system app). Sophos no longer flags it. Just a heads up for something to check when you get your phone.
