Hello,

Believe it or not I've never owned a cell phone but did have the use of a friends BB when he was overseas last year. Now that he's back, I've been doing a 'search' for my own. Sadly, I missed out on a November '08 offer of zero $ for a phone.

Firstly, my requirements: very low usage and for emergency purposes. From what I've read about 7-11 phones is that you can purchase a phone and buy time which wouldn't expire for a year (I'm trying to stay away from plans etc.)

I've been looking at the "Handset Guide" for Feb 2009 and was wondering if anyone had feedback on the Nokia 2760 (or any of the others listed.)

Thanks for reading 🙂

Some of the available reviews are available on this page

https://www.speakoutwireless.ca/phones/

I've purchased a couple of 2760 for both my parents and it looks like a pretty decent phone. Nothing special, but it's perfect for an occasional phone.

My girlfriend has an older Nokia 1600, which is basically the same as the current Nokia 1208. Good phone, gets much better reception compared to this high-end Sony Ericsson I use.

The Nokia 5200, 2760, 1680 (as well as PetroCanada Mobility's 2630 and 3555) all use the same operating system, so they have pretty much the same features (although some of them have mp3 players, some don't). The Nokia 1208 (and the older 1600) has a much smaller screen and the operating system has less features, but it's still a solid phone.

To make a long story short, these are all Nokias and Nokia makes solid phones with decent reception and sound quality. The differences are pretty minor.

Do you want a phone with an mp3 player where you can add a lot more memory? Then get a Nokia 5200 (or PetroCanada's Nokia 3555).

Do you prefer flip phones? Then get a Nokia 2760. Do you prefer a slider phone? Then get a Nokia 5200. Do you prefer a 'candybar' style phone? Then get a Nokia 1208 or a Nokia 1680. Easy as that.
