I remember at the begining that speakout only charged for outgoing text messages, despite advertising the charge for both outgoing and incoming messages. Does this still hold true? I was originally with speakout but switched to petro-canada when they raised the fees. Now that petro-canada has started to charge me for incoming text messages I'm looking into switching back to SO, or any other affordable provider if you know of one.

You pay for outgoing AND incoming text messages. Here's a c & p from their site:

How much do I pay for text messaging?

Outgoing Text Messages:
5c to Canadian Wireless Numbers
10c to US Wireless Numbers
25c to International Wireless Numbers

Incoming Text Messages:
5c regardless of the originating Wireless Number

This is ridiculous! Can you opt out of getting text messages you don't approve of? What if you start getting spam texts, is there any way to stop this or revert the charges? The bandwidth that texts use is infinitesimally smaller than a voice call and even though the rate is low, on par to data size it is a killing in $ to bit rate profit for these companies. Could you imagine having to pay for every bill, letter, or junk-mail that arrives at your door? The least they can do is not violate us from both ends; it's bad enough they have us bent over grabbing our ankles, but now you have to contend with the pulling on your ears as well. (think about it 😉

I would suggest everyone call or email them and object to this new practice. If you let them get away with it without a squeak, then you have no one to blame but yourself.

Not sure if this is the proper info but it's what I found.
