Last 2 phones I bought came with some weird area code.
I called customer service, told them I want a 519 area code and got it immediately.
No charge for it.

Yes MMDM, you can do that, I did it already with my first phone bought on Boxing Day.
This time I will port my Fido number, also a 416, which will expire Monday.

I live in Kitchener. Is the deal at all 7-11's in Ontario?

It should be Canada-wide wherever 7-11 has stores. Try the 7-11 on King St W near KCI. I've bought phones there before, although not on this promo. The lady I bought from there seemed quite knowlegeble about their phones and about GSM phones in general.

If not, if I get one in Mississauga can I get it changed to be a Kitchener local number.

Yes, just call SO customer service and tell them you want to change ACs. They can do it almost instantaneously and there's no charge.

So, today is Feb 16, and the deal is gone,

-The cheapest phone is Nokia 1600, $75

- Only $25 off in the current offer, so it would be $50 for the phone?

- Which bring to the conclusion of if I am buying a $100 denomination, I have to also pay $50 for the phone w/ come to the price of $150+tax= $169.5......

Anyone looked @ Petro Canada's Mobile
They also offer pretty much the same deal w/ $20 less on the cheapest phone.
Plus, it uses the same network as Speakout program and Petro Canada is spread all over the place 😛

It's not gone. It never was more than just a rumour that turned out to be false. If you want the "free" phone deal then read what the 7-11 manager said in the first post on this thread, "We will likely bring that $75.00 OFF promotion back again around mid year."

They also offer pretty much the same deal w/ $20 less on the cheapest phone.

The main difference is also an important one for some people. Unless you buy $100 vouchers, air time expires after only 180 days rather than 1 year (and even 15 months if you buy 2x $50 at SO.)

Even if you're prepared to buy a $100 of airtime at PC in order to get a good deal on the phone, unless you use at least $100 per year, every year, you won't be able to buy smaller top-ups to extend airtime by 1 year as you can at SO.

You can call customer service & get whatever area code you want.

So if I buy a used SIM card on the SO plan with a 416 area code, can I have the number changed to another area code?

Thanks

See FAQ #28. If you tell them you moved to a different area code there's a good chance they'll do it for free.

Hi,

Thanks for that info! I've been looking for a pay-as-you-go phone with decent expiration dates. Now, I found something even better through your blog!

From what I understand, I cannot make phone calls with this phone when in the US, but can I get incoming calls from the US while I'm on US terrirory?

Thanks for letting me know!

Geneviève

How does the new deal work? Is it $25 off the phone at the same time I am buyinmg the phone?

Or are they giving a coupon to use it whenever I want? If yes, can coupons be combined?(ex. Buy 3 $25 vouchers and get 3 $25 off coupons which can be used towards phone?)

Not a coupon system. You must purchase a phone at the same time you purchase a voucher to get the $25 off the price of the phone.

Thanks for info.
But 25$ off is a joke.
Last time it was a free Nokia1600 with a purchase of 100$ voucher.
May be next promotion give same stuff like ,a free Nokia with purchase of a 100$ voucher.
Do you have any idea when will be the next promotion in GTA Toronto region and will it be a good one??

ARRRG! My Grandma is switching from Rogers and I was hoping she'd get the deal I did. I was at 7-11 this eve and I can't remember which phone it was (next Nokia up from 1600) but it was $100 with $50 airtime.

If that was the Nokia 2760 phone, I would consider this a great deal ( for $ 50.00 ).
