I recently had my car broken into and my Speakout phone stolen. I still had a balance on that phone, so called customer service and had the service suspended. Then, after buying a new phone, called customer service and had the remaining balance transferred to my new phone.

No problem!

Mike said:

If you still have the original box that the phone came with from SpeakOut - on the box there is IMEI # of the phone. Use that as evidence that they lost phone was indeed yours.

The IMEI number is also on a sticker on the phone, usually inside the battery compartment so it's accessible to the thief.

You can also state your voice mail password, as conformation.

Good point! Thanks.

I suppose losing a phone is like losing a $50 or $100 bill. Chalk it up to experience.

But what about your phone number? That could be far more important than the value of your phone.

So how do you prove to SpeakOut that the number associated with the lost phone is really yours? How do you convince them to change the phone number of the SIM that comes with your replacement phone to your old number?

If I lost my phone I would try calling it a few times and see if I get someone who is willing to return it for a reward. If they won't.... well finders keepers and next time I'll hang onto my s*%t. If it was stolen I'd call CS and ask it they can blacklist it. But once the phone is blacklisted it's dead..... even if you find it again.

Since the phone and phone number is not attached to a specific person, does it do any good to call customer service and report it lost? Can they lock out the phone or SIM?

What happens to your phone number? Do you lose it permanently?
