Don't forget that the Nokias that Speakout sells won't work outside N.America.

Well, the Nokia 5200 might.

You can probably get a monthly plan cellphone contract with Rogers/Telus/Bell, and that MAY work in China, but expect to pay through the nose. Make a lot of phone calls, and your bill will be higher than the price of your plane ticket.

One way that might be the easiest, would be to buy a cheap phone and phone service in China. Should be considerably cheaper to use.

Make sure the phone is quad band so you can sell it here, or use it yourself.

No. SO only works in Canada. You can call China from here but you can't call here from China.

I am going overseas (China) on a trip and wondering whether it was worth it to bring my SO cellphone. I'm a cellphone newbie so sorry if these questions are dumb!

- first of all, would SO service even work in China? Would I be able to make both local calls to residents there and international calls to family/friends back home in Canada?
- how much would it cost to make local calls to China while in China? (the equivalent on the site says no charge in vancouver - would it be the same in china?)
- how much would it cost to make international calls to Canada while in China? (I know for practical purposes I'd buy a phone card but wondering what the rate would be)
- would text messaging work from China?
- how much would it be for me to receive a text message from someone in China while I'm in China?
- how much would it be for me to receive a text message from someone in Canada while I'm in China?
- how much would it cost me to send a text message to someone in China while I'm in China?
- how much would it cost me to send a text message to someone in Canada while I'm in China?
