        	        	<description><![CDATA[<p>I don't really believe that 7-11 makes *no* money off the top-up sales. I realise it's hard to find out just how much, but assuming 7-11 is a business, it would be foolish of them to sell something if they don't. Perhaps the $$ goes corporately, but hard to believe the store doesn't get *something*...</p>
<p>Isn't the way Ztar doing this backwards? I realise they want to differentiate the plans, but since Petrocans are "everywhere" and 7-11s relatively rare, it would make more practical sense to offer online top-ups for 7-11 instead. Petrocans around here have stores that probably make more profit on the same items than 7-11s do; so they both want to get walk-ins as part of their scheme...I don't see that as a large differentiator. So I think plan differentiation could be the likely business reason.</p>
<p>I was told that 7-11 online top-up was coming anyway, late June or July was vaguely inferred, but no specific date was mentioned, nor was it "promised". So it's possible we'll see it too...</p>

        	        	<description><![CDATA[<p>7-11 does not provide the service; Ztar is the service provider and 7-11 (and Petrocan in Canada) are simply distribution channels for Ztar's service.  Petrocan has opted for the online refill option so the capability already exists.  7-11 could simply mirror the petrocan online refill plan if they chose to do so.  Obviously, they have made a business decision to not offer this option to their customers.  IMHO, it serves no useful purpose to 7-11 to offer this option.  Living in Ottawa, I am impacted by their decision to leave this market and would love to have the online refill option offered.  I am still a SO customer.  Even though petrocan offers Ztar service, I don't like their business decisions with respect to data, plan options etc</p>

<p>I have to disagree with this statement. SpeakOut has LOTS of reason to offer online refills. Since there are no more 7-Elevens in Ottawa, none in Quebec, and none in the Maritimes, SpeakOut has the opportunity to offer online account management to people that live in those areas. If people could just top-up online, it would be a great attraction to those in the east. It is a HUGE incentive to get on-line top-ups rolling.</p>
<p>I also have to respectfully disagree with your statement that the sole purpose of SO is "to drag people into their stores to buy chips, drinks etc when they come in for refills"</p>
<p>SpeakOut's purpose is to provide a low cost wireless alternative to the "big boys" in wireless. It's something they do very well.</p>

Wrong. 7-Eleven makes a retail markup on each phone sold, plus a solid percentage of each airtime card sold.</p>

I'm happy with the service etc but they are seriously missing the boat here. This could make them a LOT more and would be VERY convenient for the customers (us).<br />
Wake up 7-11, Speakout and who ever else makes these descisions!<br />
The internet is here to stay!</p>
