<p>A month if not more.  I canceled my contract in early January, effective early Feb.  Then, to keep my number, I ported on Feb.1.  they said that the porting effectively "canceled" my cancellation, so I had to wait ANOTHER 30 days. so I had to pay all of feb for no service, just for the privilege of keeping my number.</p>
<p>is it any wonder people are fleeing the Bells of the world?</p>

        	        	<description><![CDATA[<p>You got to make sure the Bell phone is still active, so do the port a few days before the Bell contract expires.  You get a new number from speak out first, then you port over the Bell number.   You have to call customer service to do a port, make sure you have all the bell information handy or you are wasting the customer service rep and your time.   I am unclear on what you mean when you lose minutes,  speak out ports are free.</p>

        	        	<description><![CDATA[<p>OK, I just picked up a new SO phone, and want to port my old bell number over to the new phone.  My contract with bell is expired, so I'm ready and able to move the number without getting a bunch of fees.</p>
<p>Do I activate the SO phone and get a new number, then request a port afterwards?  Or can I activate it and specify the old number at the same time?  Can I use the automated activation thing to do this, or call customer service?  Also, do I lose minutes when I switch numbers?</p>
<p> I'm unclear on the procedure and don't want to mess up!</p>
