That's some good advice. Petro-Can might be a better option. You could also try Good2Go Mobile. It's the replacement for SpeakOut in the Ottawa area.

I think the info you got re re-activating is wrong. Best to go to SO website and send an email inquiry. My wife's SO cell expired when it was "lost" for 6 months and we could not re-activate, due to the length of time that had passed after airtime expiry(4+ months).

This might be viable alternative, also has online airtime purchase.

Hi

A while back, a 711 phone was fine for my needs (visiting Canada from time to time). Unfortunately, I managed to let the account lapse and it is now de-activiated.

During my last visit a few months ago, I contacted SO and was told that I needed a new SIM card, but that I couldn't buy one until I had bought some airtime.

They were not able to advise me how I could buy airtime in Ottawa, so I left things as they were.

I will now be back in Ottawa for most of September and, given that the Canadian mobile phone market has changed substancially over the past couple of years, I wondered if there are better options (preferably using the Nokia 1600p that I bought 2 years ago) from some of the other players in the area.

I am basically looking for a pre-pay/pay as you go service that I can use at irregular intervals e.g. for a couple of weeks at a time, 2 or 3 times a year, mainly in Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec.

Any suggestions?
