From my understanding, the SIM card will become useless once the number is ported out. And it doesn't seem to be a Speakout-only thing, Rogers and Fido do the same.

I'd call Speakout customer service just to be sure though.

To be honest, why not take advantage of the "Buy $100 of airtime, get $74 off a phone" deal that Speakout currently has? You can get your grandmother a brand new phone and $100 of airtime (which she would need to get anyways) as a holiday present.

Just had a quick question about number porting. I sometimes do work in rural Saskatchewan and as any Saskatchewanian will know, Rogers/Speakout services are usually pretty non-existent out there in the boonies so I need to switch over to SaskTel. 🙁 Question is this: I'd like to give my Speakout phone to my Grandma to use but I need my current number. If I port the number over to SaskTel, will this render the SIM card useless or is there any possible way to put a new number on there for use? Thanks, Joel.
