Thanks IAD.
I am slowly learning how this whole thing works. I've never had a cellphone before.

One more thing. You are making a distinction above between the Roger's network and the SO network.
I was of the understanding that SO uses the Roger's network. Can you please clarify in more detail how these two are related exactly?

TIA

SpeakOut is an MVNO of Rogers. Google MVNO and you'll see what I mean. It is much easier to google it 😉

No, if you have a Rogers sim card, then you will be using the Rogers service, and if you have a SO sim card, then you are using SO.

...Basically, whoever's sim card is in the phone, then that will be the network the phone is accessing.

If you want to sign up with SpeakOut, then you MUST have a SpeakOut sim.

With the first statement, a locked SO phone will work with a Rogers sim card in it, but will be accessing the Rogers network.

I am trying to understand something basic here. These are two statements from the SIM card FAQ on this site:

- Can Speak Out Wireless phones be used with Rogers SIM cards?

Yes.

.....

-Whether you're going to be using a phone you got from Speakout, or another phone, you will still have to buy a Speak Out SIM card -- either from someone who is selling one, or from Speak Out which you will have to buy together with the phone.

If the first statement is true, why do you need a Speakout phone to use the Rogers SIM card?

I'm in a situation where I have a Rogers SIM card and wish to sign up with Speakout.

Since I'm having trouble finding a SO SIM card, can't I call SO and have them start my service using Roger's SIM card and my own phone?

If not, can you please explain all the details as to why?
TIA
